I have had quite a few people ask how a turbocharger works so I figured I would break it down in simple terms. This is the most basic version. You can add tons of complication to make it more efficient but the version on my bike is about as simple and straight forward as it gets.

imagine a water wheel that you place in the exhaust path. The wheel spins as the exhaust gas’s run past it. The wheel can spin up to 100,000rpm as you increase the engine rpm. We call this the “Turbine Wheel”

Then running off the same shaft you have another wheel but this one has the fan blades angled so it sucks in air. We call this the “Compressor Wheel” Jam that air into the intake valves so the 1000cc engine is intaking as much air and fuel as say a 1500cc engine. Now your engine acts larger even though you didn’t change the size of the bore or stroke. The faster the turbine spins the more pressure the engine sees effectively increasing the displacement. That is it in simple terms.

There is a little bypass valve called a “wastegate” you can open this valve which directs the exhaust flow away from the turbine wheel to slow it down or control the psi the compressor wheel is outputting.

You also need oil on that shaft that connects the two wheels since it can hit super high rpms.

You also need to be able to supply enough fuel to match the increased air volume. Which can be complicated. But in my case where the carburetor is mounted in front of the compressor (we call this lay out “draw through”) the harder the compressor sucks on the carb the more fuel it pulls through the jets so it actually kind of does the extra fueling automatically.

Carb Keys are Back designed to dial in S&S carbs… don’t tell anyone but I have used it on a Linkert as well 🫣

I am totally fried after the last 9 months of building this years bike for Born-Free Motorcycle Show. I am honored to report that I took home the award for best sportster. I just wanted to take a min to express my gratitude for everyone who helped me out along the way and share these amazing images that Jordan Pay took last week. Thank you to 🫧SMOOTH🫧 for cheering me on and always helping me brain storm these ideas. My friend Cort who came and helped me a bunch during the process. YA.SEAT.CUSTOM for making the fantastic punk seat, The Gasbox for the amazing frame, my close friends and family for the unwavering support. And Mike Davis / Grant for including me in the show.

P.S. I strongly believe a chopper should be extension of who you are as a person. Many of you have noticed that this bike wears some of my beliefs on its sleeves. At its core I think a chopper has always been a statement piece. It blows my mind that in today’s day and age that any of these statements could be controversial but we are living in wild times. The out pouring of support has been truly humbling. F**k Racism, F**k Fascism and if you can’t get behind that then F**k You.

Sensory Overload! My brain is fried. Cool bikes / people I saw this weekend in no particular order.

Did some tuning this afternoon and Took the Born-Free Motorcycle Show Sportster out for a rip today. I accidently selectect the wrong coil type on the ignition and so it had the wrong firing order. Hit a few psi and it is pretty zippy! Don’t be alarmed the oil psi is not accurate 🤣
