Have you seen one of these smaller STOP signs before?

If you’re approaching an intersection with two STOP signs, don’t stop twice. The full-size STOP sign is for vehicle traffic, while the smaller STOP sign next to the bike lane is for people riding bicycles.

These bicycle STOP signs aren’t very common, so it’s easy to do a double take the first time you see one.

In Oregon, you can turn right on a red arrow. Even from multiple right-turn lanes.

A solid red light and a red right arrow are treated the same in Oregon. After coming to a complete stop, you can turn right unless a sign specifically says No Turn on Red.

That also applies if there are two right-turn lanes. If you’re in a lane that allows a right turn, you can make the turn on red after stopping and yielding to pedestrians, bicyclists, and any traffic with the right of way.

Just because the signal is a red arrow doesn’t automatically mean you have to wait for green.

Did you know every intersection in Oregon has a crosswalk, even if there aren’t any painted lines?

In Oregon, crosswalks can be marked or unmarked. That means pedestrians have the right of way at intersections, and drivers are required to stop and yield when someone is crossing the street.

A lot of drivers only look for the painted white lines, but the law applies at unmarked crosswalks too. Knowing this one rule can help prevent crashes and keep everyone safer.

Have you interacted with an automated flagger while driving before?

Automated flaggers are becoming more common in work zones because they help protect road workers by keeping human flaggers farther away from moving traffic.

These devices have the same authority as a human flagger. When the stop arm is down and the red light is on, you must stop. When the stop arm is up and the yellow light is flashing, you may proceed with caution.

Remember that work zone speed limits remain in effect until you reach an End Work Zone Speed Limit sign or another posted speed limit, even if workers aren’t visible. Traffic fines are also doubled in Oregon work zones.

When parking downhill you always want to turn your wheels towards the edge of the road whether there’s a curb there or not.

When parking uphill you want to turn your wheels away from the curb. If your car were to start rolling your wheels will get stuck on the curb and prevent your car from rolling down the hill. If there’s no curb you should turn your wheels towards the edge of the road.

No Stopping, No Standing, No Parking

Most people understand what parking means, but standing causes a lot of confusion. Standing means stopping your vehicle and waiting, even if you remain in the driver’s seat. If a sign says No Stopping, No Standing, No Parking, you can’t pull over and wait for someone, even if you never leave your vehicle.

These signs are usually posted where stopped vehicles create a safety issue, block visibility, or interfere with traffic flow. You’ll often see them near schools, intersections, crosswalks, and bus stops.

Before watching this video, did you know what “standing” meant?

I always use my low beam setting even during the day. The most lights will be activated making your car more visible. It won’t help you see any better in the sunlight, but other cars will be able to see you farther away and possibly through visible obstructions.
