27 years. Hundreds of Volkswagens. One incredible community.

What started as a tradition has become a family. Every year we come together to celebrate the cars we love, the friendships we've built, and the passion that keeps this community growing.

This year's journey across the Skyway and all the way to the beach was one for the books. Amazing people, unforgettable memories, and proof that the Volkswagen community is stronger than ever.

Here's to 27 years of good vibes, great friends, and keeping the tradition alive.

Good evening everyone,
Welcome to the 27th Annual Vdubs Over The Skyway. We are excited to cruise and spend the day with you tomorrow. Below are your final details to make sure everything runs smooth and everyone has an incredible experience.

📍 Morning Meet-Up Location
Citrus Place
7200 US-19, Terra Ceia
• Lineup begins at 8:00 AM
• When you arrive, drive down to the end of Stout Rd, turn around, and come back in line to park
Once parked, please head over to the Salty Dub table to pick up your envelope. Inside you will find your event sticker and some swag.

At the table you will also have the option to:
• Register for the car show
• Purchase raffle tickets ($5 each or 5 for $20)
• Enter the 50/50 raffle ($10 per ticket)
Participation is optional. The ride and sticker are free.

🚗 Convoy Roll-Out
• 11:00 AM sharp – We roll out together
We will be heading toward the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Please stay in the far right lane, maintain approximately 35 MPH, and keep the group tight with minimal gaps.

Important:
• Do NOT stop at the toll booth
• Use SunPass or Toll-By-Plate
• Keep traffic flowing at all times

📍 Arrival Location – Skyway Beach Area
We will take the first exit off the Skyway heading northbound (rest area exit). This is the same exit used during the PM ride in December.

Instead of heading toward the fishing pier:
• Veer right toward Skyway Beach
• Follow the road all the way down
• Lead car will loop at the end and come back toward the entrance
• Park along the right-hand side of the street

🚫 Important Rules
• NO cars allowed on the actual beach
• Parking is permitted on the street only
• You are welcome to walk out and enjoy the beach and water
• Please respect the space so we can continue hosting this event for years to come

We have access to this area until 4:00 PM, but you are free to leave at any time.

• Available at Citrus Place (start location)
• At the rest area across the street from Skyway Beach (end location)

Full Circle On The Skyway Bridge

Everyone who knows the air-cooled VW life understands—it’s more than a car. It’s nostalgia, community, and stories you’ll tell forever.

Ours started back in 2011.

A week before the Skyway Bridge ride, our ‘64 Beetle wouldn’t run. I was done—literally fell asleep in the driveway frustrated. But Apryl? She believed. The next morning, she had bags packed, snacks ready, and convinced me to try one more time…

It fired right up.

We hit the road, joined friends, crossed the bridge under clear skies, and it felt like everything was going our way… until it wasn’t.

Fan belt snapped. Fixed.
Distributor died. Swapped.
Fuel pump failed. Improvised.
Gas tank full of junk? Emptied it on the side of the road with rocks and determination.
“Don’t stop or you won’t make it home.”

So we didn’t.

Pregnant Apryl had to literally jump out at a gas station while I circled the lot. We hit a raccoon we couldn’t avoid. The smell? Unforgettable. The stress? Real. But through it all… she never lost her calm, her smile, or her faith in us.

We finally made it home around 4AM—pushed into the driveway by a fellow VW brother.

And the best part?

The next morning… Apryl got up, hopped in the Bug, and drove it like nothing ever happened.

That’s when I knew—this wasn’t just about a car.

Fast forward to today: we’re married, seven kids deep, and heading back to the Skyway Bridge ride on April 19, 2026 for the first time since that wild journey.

Grateful for the road, the breakdowns, the friendships, and most of all—the love that carried us through it all.
