Today, I had the opportunity to present Cody McKellips with an S&T "Step Up" pin. On Sunday, February 4th, our area experienced a bad ice storm that resulted in several accidents on I-44. Cody was involved in one of those accidents, in the area of Conway, MO. Thankfully, Cody was uninjured but others were not as lucky. Cody, using some first aid training he had received as a firefighter (Walnut Grove Fire Department), took it upon himself to check on other drivers involved in the accident and render first aid as best he could, with what little supplies he had (including a t-shirt he had stored in his backpack). Other S&T students were involved in the accident and were among those that Cody helped.
Cody "Stepped up" to help others on that cold and icy night. If you see Cody walking around on campus shake his hand and thank him!
Cody is an aerospace engineering major here at S&T. You can check out Cody's non-profit company - Global Rescue Systems. Cody is working to help small fire departments with water rescue situations.
Good work Cody!
