American adventurer Kelsey Pfendler has made history by rowing more than 2,400 miles (3,900 km) alone from Monterey, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii in just 43 days. She became the first American woman, the youngest woman, and the fastest person ever to complete the solo California-to-Hawaii crossing. 🌎🏆
Setting off on May 21 aboard her 21-foot rowboat, Lily, Pfendler endured blistered hands, sleepless nights, powerful winds, unpredictable ocean currents, and complete isolation. She relied on a desalinator for fresh drinking water, prepared her own meals, and overcame both the physical and mental challenges of spending more than six weeks alone at sea.
Her remarkable voyage broke long-standing records. Completing the crossing in 43 days, she surpassed the previous women's record of 86 days and the previous men's record of 52 days, setting a new overall fastest time for the route. Hundreds of supporters welcomed her arrival in Honolulu after a journey that redefined the limits of solo ocean rowing. 🌊💪
