To: All racers and fans of Davenport Speedway
We are pleased to announce the formation of the Davenport Speedway Hall of Fame.
The goaI of this hall of fame will be to share and promote the one hundred plus years of auto racing history at this facility. We hope that it will be a source of fond memories to those who have experienced its past and to enthrall and educate generations of racing fans to come for many years.
While there is lots of work still to be done, the process to select the first class of inductees has already started. You, our great racing fans, can take part in this process.
In the month of June, race fans will have the opportunity to nominate individuals for the Hall of Fame.
For the first class of inductees, we will be selecting four individuals from the pre 1970 era and four individuals from the post 1970 era.
To be eligible for nomination, an individual must have been integral to the sport of auto racing at this facility and meet one of these three criteria:
1. Twenty years or more of participating in auto racing, or
2. out of competition or involvement in auto racing for at least two years, or
3. deceased.
In July the Selection Committee will narrow the list down to twenty (20) names. The fan vote will take place at the first race after the Mississippi Valley Fair. Barring a rain out at that event, the inaugural class of inductees will be announced at the Season Championships on August 22nd.
The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum uses the phrase “Promoting the Future by Preserving the Past”. This is the 106th year of the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. One hundred and six years is a long time, and a lot of history. We need to preserve our racing history. The time to act is now!
We hope that you are as excited about this announcement as we are. And we hope you will support this endeavor as we go forward.
Sincerely,
Davenport Speedway Hall of Fame Selection Committee
