Tonight I was inspired to share some more data from testing on the WOT Microtube Intercooler.

This is a line graph showing the performance of the WOT Microtube intercooler when tested a couple weeks back on the track at GTA Finals at Buttonwillow Raceway. The ambient temp during this session was 74°F. The car is making approx 500whp pushing 30psi with the MHI turbo. The data shown is actually the second 5 minutes of my session, from 5-10 minutes. I figured why not show everything when it's really had a chance to be pushed and fully heat soaked. If it can win with this disadvantage that's all the more impressive. Couple that with the power the car is producing and this is a real stress test for the microtube IC.

You'll see that the trend line hovers right around 98-100°F, with a few peaks getting up to 110°F. The graph isn't uniform because the demands of the track are fairly random when it comes to looking at them on a graph. What is nice though is this is real and hard data in the setting we all hope to have performance at: on the track, with real load, with real drag and air flow, and in a truly dynamic setting.

What isn't shown on the graph is the extremely impressive coolant temps to go along with these great post IC IATs. One of the major benefits of the microtube structure is the air flow it provides the lower half of the radiator helping it to function at a much higher level of efficiency (max coolant temp of 204°F in this session), to go along with the impressive charge air cooling. And this unit only weights 15.5 lbs! It really is a win-win-win.

The price of $1650 is more yes, but for that you're getting the best (and not just by a small margin). Better power, better cooling, faster times.

If you're interested in a unit shoot me a message. The December batch sold out, but the February batch still has units available.

Bigtime dyno testing results with the WOT/HPT Microtube IC!

My first client at the release of the microtube intercooler, he has the same tuner as me, Rtuned (Ramon) in Puerto Rico. Two days ago they installed the ic on the car and ran on the dyno to do testing.

Rtuned made a post on Instagram and with his permission I'm sharing. He said:

"Testing the new Microtube Intercooler in this time attack Civic Type R FL5. Results: Previous WHP was 475 and 442 torque (using market leading IC), without any adjustments to the map just replacing the intercooler car did 511WHP/472WTQ. Ambient temperature was 91 degrees and 51% humidity, from 3500rpm-7000rmp IAT1(Intake manifold) stayed at 100 degrees the whole pass in 4th gear making it highly efficient. The best part of this intercooler is that it has minimal restriction to airflow to the radiator and we've already tested at Buttonwillow Racetrack in another FL5 and confirmed significant lower coolant temperature. We'll be testing at our local track in Puerto Rico in a couple of weeks to share the coolant temperature results."

Follow up from Ramon when asked if they did multiple dyno pulls, he said:

"Did 3 pulls. First one was 509, second 511, then I lowered 1 pound of boost and made 504."

So now we have Dyno results to go with the track results.

Message me to get one, I have 8 left in the upcoming batch, target release of December 20th.

I know the microtube intercooler I shared last week seems alien to most everyone, so I want to give some background and explain why this is such a cool and effective product.

The technology has been around for a while and used in a number of high performance arenas including F1, Indy Car, LMP1 racecars, aerospace (NASA), and department of defense applications. Production costs have historically put it out of reach for regular consumers. Microtube intercoolers are a higher evolution of traditional bar-and-plate and tube-and-fin cores. They offer better heat transfer, airflow, with less weight (per volume) and less pressure drop.

What Is Microtube Intercooler Technology?

Instead of using large rectangular bars (bar-and-plate) or large oval tubes (traditional tube-and-fin), microtube intercoolers use hundreds to thousands of small thin-walled tubes (often only a few millimeters in diameter). Air flows through these tubes, increasing the surface area in contact with the charge air.

Why Microtubes Cool Better

1. Much Higher Surface Area

Microtubes massively increase heat transfer surface area resulting in faster and more efficient cooling. For example, an intercooler with 1.0 mm diameter microtubes will have a UA/volume ratio (surface area vs internal volume) 100 times greater than an intercooler with 10 mm diameter conventional tubes.

2. Thinner Tube Walls

Less thermal resistance than heavy bar-and-plate walls means heat transfers more quickly/easily.

3. Less heat soak

Microtube designs cool down more quickly between boost cycles, meaning they don't hold the heat and can be consistent in performance over long duration driving (track sessions).

4. Better engine coolant temps

The microtube structure allows for much greater air flow to whatever is behind the intercooler, in this case the whole lower half of the radiator. As a result radiator performance is greatly improved reducing coolant temps.

In summary, compared to tube-and-fin, and bar-and-plate cores, a microtube design offers:

Better charge temps, less pressure drop, lower weight, less heat soak, and much better airflow to the radiator (less blockage).

🏁 Track Use Benefits

Microtube intercoolers really shine on track because of:

Lower pressure drop → turbo works less hard, lower IAT temps

Better sustained charge cooling → less heat soak over a session, lower IAT rise

Better airflow to radiator → lower coolant and oil temps

Lower weight per volume → better handling and rotation

For testing I did a side by side on track comparison against the current gold standard track intercooler (I'm not listing their name out of respect and no desire to negatively promote against them. You can look at my previous posts to figure it out). The results with the WOT/HPT microtube intercooler were better across the board: significantly lower steady state and full boost IAT (≈ 9°F), lower steady state and peak coolant temps (≈ 12°F consistently), faster trap speed of 131 vs 128 mph, and lower lap times (1:58.0 vs 1:57.2). I ran the microtube unit for 2 more full track days and the results were very consistent in each session of those days.

Additionally, I collected data while street driving to and from work and observed that there's essentially zero heat soak, and throttle response is effectively immediate. So the microtube design can handle higher boost (I am at 30 psi, 500 whp), but is also great on lower power or stock builds because of the minimal pressure drop. Does not require a tune, but as usual a tune will maximize performance.

The WOT/HPT Microtube IC has 1102 microtubes that are 2.5mm in diameter. The forward facing tubes have thicker walls to make them more resistant to damage from road debris. The core dimensions are: 28.33” x 7.25” x 4.3”. The weight is 15.5 lbs. It comes with a 1 year warranty against manufacturer defects. Price is $1650 shipped, with an approximate 4 week lead time. The current batch is scheduled to be ready to ship around December 20th.

This unit works with the FL5 and DE5. Requires the ambient temp sensor to be relocated, and the air deflector pieces to be removed (couple of screws) similar to other larger intercoolers. We have an FK8 model in the works with a goal towards release in April ‘26.

Feel free to message me with any questions you may have.

New WOT Performance product announcement!

WOT/HPT Microtube intercooler with results that make it the new top dog in the intercooler arena, especially for track applications.

Tested this past weekend at GTA Finals. The results were incredibly impressive. Data was collected on the same day in sequential sessions with the industry leading IC being tested first followed by the WOT/HPT microtube. The WOT IC outperformed the industry leading IC both in charge temps and coolant temps (13°F lower peak coolant temp) consistently through the whole session. Big performance from a unit that is only 15 lbs!

The data shared is from Friday's open practice sessions at Buttonwillow's famous CW13 configuration. Testing was done using my car which is now making 500 whp on 30 psi boost. The industry leading IC was used for 4 sessions, and the data pulled is from the 4th session. On the 5th session the WOT/HPT was tested and it was a bit warmer out (74°F vs 70°F from the earlier session). Data on the graph was collected at the same point on the track with the car going 121 MPH at 7066 RPM with 29 psi boost. Both approximately 5 minutes into the session.

Charge temp performance is a function of the microtube structure promoting a massive amount of surface area for coolant and heat exchange. Coolant temp improvement is the function of the microtube structure promoting a ton of air flow through the intercooler and to the lower half of the radiator.

Microtube tech is new to this platform but not new to motorsports; Indy Car and LMP1 race cars, along with others, have used this tech for a while. The advantages of this tech are improved charge and coolant temps, low pressure drop, and light weight. The primary disadvantage has always been production cost and in fluid cooling the potential for clogging with viscus fluids (oil).

I managed a 1:57.2 on the weekend, and had a 56.6 in the works until I got greedy in the final corner and out braked myself.

The WOT/HPT microtube intercooler introductory promo price will be $1650 shipped. There is one unit in stock, after that orders will be made to order with a lead time of approx 4 weeks. They are coming from Hong Kong and you may have to pay a tarrif but the price should be minimal (the first customer paid only $21).

Message me to set up your order or to ask any questions you may have.

If anyone's still on the fence, this is about as good of proof of concept as I could give for my WOT products.

102°F in Puerto Rico yesterday, 470 whp, using my WOT SPEC triple pass radiator with transmission cooler, dual oil cooler kit, and cooling plate.

My customer's max ECT was 222°F after 6 hot laps. He also got a personal best time.

He wasn't closely monitoring oil because the log r is known to be off, he plans to install an oil temp sensor in the future. The 2 temps (ECT and oil) are always linked though because of the OEM parallel design, so if coolant is staying in a good place then you can safely assume that oil is also in a good place. Same with transmission fluid if the cooler is being run in parallel. My estimate is that oil was likely in the mid to high 250s based on a peak of 222° ECT.

I am excited to announce the single oil cooler version of the WOT Performance Oil Cooler Kit for the FL5 and DE5!

This kit maintains the same design and benefits of the dual kit, but with just one cooler located on the driver’s side (left hand side).

The purpose of the kit is to offer it more as a “sport” kit as compared to the dual kit being the “ultimate” package. The performance should still be better than anything else out currently. The kit is using all of the same high quality components: the WOT dual duct, PWR core, Raceflux lines with an added fiberglass/silicone protective sheath, HEL sandwich plate, the fender liner vent, and all necessary brackets and hardware.

Track testing with the dual cooler set up showed incredible performance, with oil temps being reduced by 35°F and coolant temps dropping by 30°F. It is fair to assume that the performance gains on the single oil cooler kit will yield at least half of the performance of the dual cooler kit. Oil temps were collected using a physical sensor installed in the oil pan, which is measuring temps post engine and pre oil coolers. Had temps been measured post oil coolers they would be even lower! The oil used in testing was Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30.

Oil pressure with the dual cooler kit was observed to show a drop of only 3-5 psi vs with no coolers when comparing at the same temperature. That said, the coolers more than make up for these losses by virtue of keeping the oil temps down. It was observed that near the end of sessions the psi was the same or higher as compared to OEM because the oil was not thinning out nearly as much.

The benefits of the single oil cooler kit:

- Will still have tremendous performance and will reduce both oil and coolant temps.

- Uses the same top of the line components: PWR cores, Raceflux lines, and HEL thermostatic sandwich plate.

- 3D printed ducts, CAD modeling via Casale Design LLC who also designed the Spoon Thill 24h bumper vents and is an aerospace engineer by trade

- Retains OEM brake function, No brake cooling issues

- Requires no cutting at all of the bumper

- Does not obstruct airflow to the radiator

- Uses an exit vent in the fender liner, angled outboard to evacuate hot air out (no issues with front end grip or unusual tire wear have been observed)

- Maintains easy daily driving oil warm up via 180°F thermostat in the sandwich plate

- Uses 10an Raceflux lines which have a lifetime warranty against leaks with the fittings

- Minimal to no drop in oil pressure vs OEM

All kits will be built to order with an estimated 4 week turnaround time. Cost is $1500 USD shipped within the USA. $1350 for the DE5 as it does not require the ducting, DE5 can use its OEM front bumper vents, and simply needs to remove the plastic behind them (few clips and screws). Will ship internationally as well.
