Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding.

Here's a freebie for the Blue Oval folks brought to you by my other shop Automotive Second Chances.

Whether you are in need of an inexpensive air cleaner solution to a cracked air box, or you're looking to free up a few horsepowers and improve economy, there is an off the shelf MAF sensor housing to cone filter adapter made by Spectre Performance, part #8145, which adapts the factory MAF housing to a 4" inlet air filter.

In the case of this Town Car replacing the broken air box lid would have cost the same or more than this adapter/filter setup, so installing the latter is sort of like having your cake and eating it too.

This car did pass Maricopa County, AZ emissions with this setup, but please check and abide by your local emissions laws before modifying your vehicle.

As an aside, the Spectre adapter does not have a gasket for use between it and the MAF housing, but a thin bead of RTV solves that minor oversight.

Before, during and after porting an intake plenum/elbow for a Ford 4.6L V8 out of a Grand Marquis.

Unlike Mustangs, there's not a huge aftermarket for the Panther platform or trucks for these type parts, so having a shop port them is about the only option.

You can see the original casting is pretty rough, has lots of ridges, edges, machining marks, and a near 90 degree short side radius.

The finished product removed and smoothed/polished as much of the casting as possible, while removing the gnarly double ridge drop off short side and smoothing/tapering it as much as practical. The inlet is also opened to 70mm in anticipation of a future aftermarket throttlebody, and the outlet is smoothed out to match the intake manifold opening, making sure there's no interference with the gasket surface, which would be bad.
