Subject: Racing into the Sunset: An Update on Wingnut Raceway
After many years of high-speed thrills, creative engineering, and gravity-powered excitement, the time has come for us to wave the final checkered flag. We are writing to inform you that we discontinued the operation of our valve cover racetrack, at the end of 2025.
Decisions like this are never easy, especially when they involve a hobby that brings so much joy and ingenuity to light. From the roar of the crowd to the sight of vintage Ford, Chevy, GM, Chrysler, MG, and others, including the Inline valve covers. Every race day has been a highlight for us.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this track what it was:
• To the Racers: Thank you for the countless hours you spent in your garages, turning scrap metal into miniature speed machines. Your creativity never ceased to amaze us.
• To the Fans: Thank you for the cheers, the energy, and the community spirit you brought to every event.
• To the Volunteers: who helped set up and break down at the shows that we attended.
• What’s Next?
While the track may be closing, the spirit of the sport lives on in the friendships made and the stories shared. We encourage you all to keep tinkering, keep building, and keep the "valve cover racing" tradition alive.
• People we would like to acknowledge who made this endeavor possible
John Vetter, Frosty Harrington, Frank & Laura Keeling, John, Amber Egli & Kayla Hawley, Gene Cross, The Love family, Dick & Michelle Larson, Duane Smith, The Grimes family, Mike Selover, Matthew Clark, Erik Newlin, Ashley Wing, Deb Wing and to all who participated in the race’s kids & adults it could not have happened without you.
Finally, last but not least, Iowa Street Rod Association for their support
Thank you for the memories and for being part of our racing family. It’s been an incredible ride.
Best regards,
Rick & Greg Wing
(Wingnut Raceway Crew)
