Today’s “one thing” on the GC8 was small.
Just installed the alternator belt before heading to work. Progress is progress, even when it’s only one piece at a time.
But the bigger project today wasn’t the racecar. It was the students.
Spent the day working with the Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center automotive program, helping teach high school students what tuning actually is, how calibration affects performance, and what goes into making a car run correctly and reliably. We worked on their 2015 STI project they’ve been building since 2019, then finished the day by showing them what a real racecar looks like on the dyno.
One thing a day on the car.
One thing someday for the next generation.

Day 25 — Oregon Trail Rally Chaos One thing a day took a detour into full rally service park survival mode. Engine swaps, zero sleep, and tuning a racecar on the street at 4:30AM before heading back out to compete.
In the middle of all the chaos, Andy Miller put the EZ30R powered NA4WD car on the podium with 1st in class and 3rd overall at Oregon Trail Rally.
Sometimes “one thing a day” turns into “keep the whole operation alive until sunrise.”

Day 23 of one thing a day is on pause for rally weekend at Oregon Trail Rally.
Supporting Andy Miller’s EZ30R-powered NA4WD Subaru. End of day one puts the car 1st in class and 3rd overall. Still chasing the top spot.
One thing a day resumes after rally.

Day 23: Racecar Progress Paused — Oregon Trail Rally Prep Took Over
Not every day in a racecar build means turning wrenches. Today was all about loading tools, parts, spares, and getting everything ready to head out for Oregon Trail Rally this weekend.
The GC8 stayed untouched today, but rally weekends always end up fueling the motivation to keep pushing this thing forward. Sometimes progress is garage time. Sometimes progress is remembering why the project matters in the first place.
One thing a day yesterday.
One thing tomorrow.
One thing every day until the racecar is back on the road.

Day 22 of one thing a day until the racecar is back on the road. No time to sit around waiting for paint to dry when there’s still a mountain of work left before August 7th.
While primer and paint cured on a few parts, I kept the project moving forward by installing the big blue Hardrace trailing arms in the rear suspension. Slowly but surely, the Subaru Impreza GC8/EJ207 is starting to go back together instead of coming apart.
Blue suspension parts make me irrationally happy.
One thing yesterday. One thing today. One thing tomorrow until the racecar is back on the road.

Day 21 of One Thing a Day until the built Subaru Impreza EJ207 racecar is back on the road.
Today was racecar therapy: finally getting the fuel tank back into the GC8 after dealing with theft damage, rust, broken hardware, and way too many little problems. It is not glamorous, but getting the tank mounted back in the car feels like real progress.
One thing yesterday. One thing today. One thing tomorrow.

Last week there was no Tuesday short.
Only a long form video.
So naturally the solution was to make a short explaining why there wasn’t a short.
One thing a day until the EJ207 powered Subaru Impreza GC8 racecar is back on the road by August 7th… even if one of those things is just uploading damage control content to keep the algorithm fed.

Day 19 of one thing a day until the Subaru Impreza GC8 is back on the road.
Today’s task was pure racecar logic: removing 2.6 lbs of factory NVH dampening material from the rear subframe. It serves no structural purpose, just extra weight and noise reduction that a racecar absolutely does not care about.
Unfortunately the sawzall was also interested in reducing weight from my hand, so things got a little sketchy for a minute. Worth it? Probably. Smart? Debatable.
One thing yesterday. One thing today. One thing tomorrow until the racecar is back on the road.

Day 17 of One Thing a Day until the racecar is done.
After days of tearing apart rusty Subaru rear suspension, pressing bushings, fighting wheel bearings, and creating entirely new problems to solve, reassembly finally begins.
Naturally, it starts with fire.
The built EJ207 Subaru Impreza GC8 racecar is slowly coming back together one task at a time. Today marks the shift from destruction, extraction, and cleanup into actually putting parts back on the car.
One thing yesterday. One thing today. One thing tomorrow until the racecar is back on the road.

Day 16 of one thing a day until the EJ207 Subaru Impreza GC8 racecar is back on the road.
Nothing is as satisfying as that split second before a seized bushing finally lets go under tons of pressure. Just silence, tension, creaking metal… then BANG.
More rear suspension work on the GC8 coupe resurrection. Pressing out old Subaru bushings, fighting corrosion, and slowly bringing this stolen and stripped racecar back to life one thing at a time.
One thing yesterday.
One thing today.
One thing tomorrow.
