Replacing the electrical portion (minus the solenoids) of the automatic transmission in a 2012 Ford Expedition due to intermittent loss of all gears (vehicle reverts to 2nd gear aka "limp home mode" and stays there until restarted). Check engine light on (P0720 dtc). This is a common ("pattern failure"--poorly designed part) problem on this "6R80" transmission found in many Ford/Lincoln models. Ford extended the warranty to cover it for 10 years/150k miles (whichever comes first). My customer's vehicle only has 144k, but is 13 years old. It was challenging finding the part from Ford as they are not making enough of the part (giant plastic piece shown in picture below) to cover demand, but after a couple dead-ends I was able to find one. An expensive part ($280) with a couple extra seals ($70), and a new fluid filter ($50) and 9 quarts of Mercon LV fluid ($90), and a few hours of labor bring the job to almost $900.

Major coolant leak on this 2013 Ford Expedition 5.4L...rubber seal was allowed to relieve operating system pressure (16psi) because the rubber seal is held in place by plastic...pretty bad design (original Ford engineering), and there's no updated metal reinforced rubber gasket (that I know of) to reinforce this setup to give it a little more longevity (according to the customer this engine was replaced with a Ford remanufactured engine 60k miles ago). It's only a few hours to replace the gasket, but it left this customer stranded out here on the Olympic Peninsula until I got it fixed for him to drive back to East of Seattle. Luckily he noticed something was wrong before he overheated the engine and caused thousands of $ of damage.

New head gaskets for this 23 year old Subaru with 215k miles. With tax about a $1600 job. The owner opted to replace the timing belt, water pump, timing belt pulleys and hydraulic tensioner, so that added $250 for an Aisin kit (original equipment supplier).

An unusual method of replacing a fuel pump on this 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 with an extra long service bed. Normally I raise up the vehicle on the vehicle lift and lower the fuel tank using a hydraulic jack in order to access the fuel tank, but this truck weighs 10,600 lbs without any tools in the service bed, and my lift's max capacity is 10,000 lbs. The owner could have brought his truck to many other shops in the area that have 12-15k lb lifts, but he wanted me to do it. So he asked if I would be willing to cut a temporary access hole in the service bed and then re-weld the cut-out back in place. Timewise, it ended up taking me a little more time (1/2 hour or so), and I used some cut-off wheels and welding wire/gas, but I'm sure he still ended up saving some $ by having me do it. Of course, I installed a GM original equipment pump assembly as this is his work truck and when his truck breaks down that costs him time and money being away from his jobsite (he owns/operates a concrete company).

My first time replacing the foam/fabric covering on a headliner. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out...I'll find out tomorrow if the customer is happy as well. It's definitely an improvement. The old headliner fabric had come loose in several areas and had holes/tears.

This 2007 Ram 3500 with the 24 valve 5.9L Cummins engine was starting hard for several weeks (long crank time) and then failed to start one day. Diagnosis: excessive return fuel flow from one/more injectors (which results in slow build-up of fuel pressure during cranking--4k psi is required to start engine) Return flow quantity was ok at idle (
