We’re keeping busy this winter! This past weekend we hosted lessons with Alison Head on Saturday and Freddie went to a schooling show Sunday.
This Friday we have yoga with Erin Sweeney at 1:30 and more lessons.
If it doesn’t snow ❄️ this weekend we will venture out to do a long lining clinic with Richard Malmgren.

01/27/2019

We had a fun outing Saturday, taking a couple of horses to participate in the introduction to working equitation clinic at Miran Farm. Everyone had a positive, confidence building experience! Looking forward to going back!

01/25/2019

We had a great first yoga for riders class this week with Erin Sweeney and are planning to do more. Beginners are encouraged to try it out, most of us are newbies and ridding attire is fine. There’s no cost but we’re collecting donations for various deserving charities. Feel free to message me if you’d like to come! 🐴🌞

Ritter Dressage

"In the tradition of the old Spanish Riding School, three repetitions of the same exercise were defined as a reprise. That is a good structuring device, because you start to see a trend after three repetitions. The horse's gait and posture will either improve or deteriorate. If you ride something once, the outcome could be a coincidence. If you get the same result three times in a row, it's a pattern. If there is no improvement within the first three attempts, it's unlikely that things will get better during the next hundred repetitions. Therefore, you should then modify the aids or the exercise, or in extreme cases abandon the exercise completely for the time being.
After the first reprise, you change direction and ride a reprise on the other rein. Then you compare in which direction the exercise was more difficult for the horse, and in which direction it benefited the horse more. In the past it was customary to ride a third reprise in the more difficult direction. This protocol prevents mindless drilling and thoughtlessly repeating the same mistake over and over."

The week was off to a busy start getting ready for our open house this Saturday. I almost forgot to mention that I took my big red Fred, “ Festive Affair “ to the pvda schooling show at Woodstock. It was a soggy day so his eventing background came in handy. We managed to get training level reserve champion in spite of me going off course at the walk🤭. Thanks to Ubaldo Gallardo, Amy Hsu, Elizabeth Pepper, for the helping hands and Erin Sweeney for getting us to this point and to Martin Douzant for giving Freddie a fabulous start. It takes a village!

It's been a while since this page has been updated. Let me assure you that Doc's haven farm has been, and will continue to be alive and well.

We purchased approximately 90 acres east of the town of Poolesville late this past spring.

We are scheduled to break ground on our new property this month. I will post pictures here and on my personal page as construction gets underway.

Thanks to those of you who have support our lengthy transition!

A busy Saturday as several horses went off to find adventure. Steph and Indy are in PA for a clinic. Holly and Chet went to the PVDA Catoctin Chapter schooling show. They were well behaved for their in-hand classes, many thanks to John Michael Kuster for handling them! And finally I bid farewell to my wonderful pony Annie, as she left on a breeding lease for the next year. I can't wait to see her amazing foal next year!

Now that it's official, we would like to congratulate Sharon Pitchler on purchasing our farm. Sharon rides with Shera Ann Soloman who will be running her business out of what is now Skylark Farm. Doc's Haven Farm and our wonderful clients have temporarily moved to Two Sisters Farm in Dickerson while we find a suitable property which will meet our expanding needs. We are very excited about this transition and look forward to serving our horsey friends and community. Thank you to everyone for your support and for providing us the opportunity to pursue our dreams! 🐴🐴🌈🌞

Grand Luck, "Annie" 14.2 w/USEF temp. card. 1/2 Arab 1/2 RID by "It's the Luck of the Irish X Grand Gypsy, (Gypsy Vision). Offered for sale as a broodmare prospect/light riding mount as she sustained a stifle injury to her left hind in the pasture. Prior to that she had one recognized dressage show under her belt at training level and multiple schooling show outings at first level with competitive scores in the 60's . Annie has a great mind and trail rode alone or as a babysitter for my young horse. She could come back to light riding with time but would be best suited as a sport pony broodmare given her superb mind and correct gaits. $5000 obo. Broodmare lease option also considered. Located in Poolesville, MD.
