Tuesday Tech tip this week involves tire selection. Here in the Midwest, we are really blessed with track owners putting in so many hours in track prep, which leads us to tire selection. I used to always have to have soft terrain tires to mentally start the day feeling the most in control on the prepped dirt, but then inevitably, as the day wore on, i always wanted hard terrain tires. This is where the term intermediate comes in to be a hot button topic in my tire crazy brain. If you follow any tire manufacturer what their rendition of intermediate looks like, you can get a close k**b pattern to a pretty spacy pattern. Next, the same manufacturer can replace one intermediate design with another design, but you can always see a shift in which direction they went on intended purpose. The manufacturer has the worst job ever to try and cross as many types of dirt possible and make every rider happy with one tire. So, saying all that, my tip is to find the tire you really need. You first have to be honest with how much time you are in soft, blended, or hard conditions. I personally are at a point where I lean more to the hard tire for 3 reasons, first- typically, they last the longest. Second - the second set of motos and usually practice days, the dirt is fairly firm, and lastly, even when you're on a soft surface, you're youre aiming to find the firmest area of the trail or track ride. Sorry for the long-winded tip. Maybe this week, it's just more of food for thought. Either way, have fun riding, and I can not wait to ride with y'all ✊️
