A transom screen?? You don’t see that everyday! 🪟

This home’s unique roofline had me pulling designs from 14th century European architecture. As you can see in the second photo here, the roofline of this home drops dramatically from the height of the door frame. That meant a full size screen door would get caught on the roof and never be able to open. To account for this drop we decided on a transom screen window to be secured in place above the door to make up for the gap. Now the screen door opens with no problem and I think it turned out beautifully! It’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Going custom means we can work together to find creative solutions to unique challenges!

Another unique screen door request! 🚪🐈

This client wanted paneling on the lower portion of the door so their cat wouldn’t tear up the screen but they also wanted their cat to be able to see out! Instead of a standard wood panel, we used a thin plexiglass piece to allow for a clean sight line without risk of damage. If you look closely you can see a bit of reflection on that piece. Plus we added a cat door off to the side so their friendly feline could easily sneak in and out when the main door was mostly closed.

With custom screen doors, it’s easy to turn your most unique requests into reality.

This client already had a screen door at the front and wanted one at the back to match! The Victorian corner spandrels and row of spindle in the middle give this door that classic, old school look like you’d see in the South. Can’t you just imagine sitting on the porch and relaxing in a rocking chair with this beauty behind you?? I love the look of this one!

We also updated the feel of this door by giving it a slow-closing mechanism to prevent the loud screen door slam of the past and instead give it that nice, gentle close.

If you’re also looking for a custom screen door to up your home’s curb appeal and get some more fresh air into your life, the link is in my bio!

Custom detail, built to spec 🚪

This one came with a request for something extra: specially routed, inset trim around the screen (that classic ogee profile) instead of a plain flat edge, to match the millwork inside the house. Small detail, big difference. (Scroll to see close-ups)

This door is also on the taller side, so the homeowner wanted a slow-closing mechanism at the bottom, positioned so the hold-open button is easy to reach without having to stretch.

Full wood construction, screen inset flush, hardware to match. Every door’s a little different depending on what the house (and the homeowner) calls for.

Built and installed by hand, one door at a time. 🛠️

Not every doorway plays by the rules 🚪

This frame had some irregularities that meant a standard-fit door wasn’t going to cut it. So this one got custom set further into the opening to seat properly and close flush with the trim on the door’s exterior. No gaps, no fighting the frame.

That’s the thing about old houses: they all have their quirks, and a custom door means building around them, not against them. Solid wood, full screen, hardware that’ll only look better with time.

Built and installed by hand, one door at a time. 🛠️
