Hiring Veterans gives you an edge in the business space, keeping them gives you the workforce advantage
Emotional intelligence.....it's all over the media, in books, and it's being taught in schools. One of the skills of EI that is highly important to me is social responsibility...it is why I coach HS kids, why I have always volunteered, and why I teach my own kids about it.
Amanda Held, founder of HOOVES., Healing Our Veterans and I have developed a friendship and collaborationship (is that even a word? If not, I am making it up) over the last year. I have met and spoken with veterans who have been changed by this program and I have read the science behind it.
HOOVES is working to make real life changes for Veterans.
We are happy to announce, for the month of February, HR Navigator, LLC is donating $20 from every EQ-i 2.0 assessment that is ordered (the assessment does not need to be completed or debriefed during the month).

Had an amazing afternoon co-facilitating a Veteran employment "Bridging the Gap" session!
Bill Kieffer, of Kieffer & Associates LTD, and I teamed up to bring veterans and employers together and discuss three simple questions:
- "What do you know about the other?"
- "What do you want to know about the other?"
- "What does the other need to know about you?"
We had some truly awesome engagement and involvement from our veterans and employers alike. These direct conversations really are the best way to bridge the gaps, and optimize both veteran career transition and business results.
Thanks to all for participating in this inaugural event. A special thank you to our host Jonathan, (owner of Sebastiano's Italiano Restaurant) and our sponsor The Employers' Association.
A great morning hearing about what Leadership Toledo is all about and especially the impact it has on the youth in our community! Thank you Debby Dickinson Peters for inviting me to attend today! As a veteran I believe my role is to continue to serve my community and to ensure the leaders of tomorrow have the same, if not better opportunities than I did growing up.

The Veteran Workforce Advantage
Employers, here is your free Veteran Workforce Advantage tip of the day! Create a sponsor program. Sponsor programs are very recognizable to Veterans as it is mandated in the military service for units to have one. Some organizations are better at it than others but having a designated sponsor for your incoming Veteran and military employees will be the first recognizable and actionable step you can take to create a great first impression of your organization. And by all means, don't limit it to your veteran employees, you can expand the program to include all new employees. Would love to hear from Veterans whose companies do this function well. And if you are looking for ideas on implementing a program, feel free to comment here, or reach out to me!

#DDay was the largest joint military operation ever undertaken. It completely changed the course of the war in Europe & laid the foundation for the Allied victory. We remember the sacrifices made, the thousands of lives lost, in the fight for freedom.

As we move into the Memorial Day weekend, I ask all Americans to learn about the difference in the various military related holidays. Memorial Day is very near to my heart as I have lost friends in service to our nation. By all means, enjoy the day off if you have it, after all, that freedom is what we all served to ensure would continue to exist but please take a moment to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Happy birthday to the National Guard!
Happy Birthday, National Guard! On this date in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America were organized in Massachusetts. This marks the beginning of the organized militia, and the birth of the National Guard!
Today we pause and remember a day that changed the course of our country's history, resulting in an entire generation of Americans now known as the Greatest Generation. We must never forget our nation's history and ensure those who come after us know, understand, and remember our past.
Great article explaining why employers shouldn't judge a Veteran based on what you think Veterans can do....kind of like not judging a book by it's cover! https://medium.com/@director_67845/for-enlisted-special-forces-soldiers-transitioning-out-of-the-army-a-word-of-caution-fa676ee66ce5
Despite increased understanding of our training, role, and mission, there is still a nagging stereotype for enlisted versus officers.
Today we honor and recognize a life of service. Rest in Peace President George H. W. Bush. President Bush served just over 3 years as a Naval Aviator during WWII during which he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals during that short time. He survived being shot down and bailing out of his aircraft. President Bush said of his service, "There is no question that having been involved in combat has affected my way of looking at problems. The overall experience was the most maturing in my life." Fair Winds and Following Seas Mr. President.
Veteran unemployment was 2.9% in October 2018 as compared to the national average of 3.7%. Veterans are exceptional employees!
One of my favorite quotes because it was something my parents always told me as I was growing up and I have never forgotten it. What is your favorite quote (bonus points for memes!)

On this Election Day, some thoughts to ponder about Veterans and the influence they have on our local community all the way to national influence.
Today's #ElectionDay has an influx of veterans, especially women veterans, running for Congress.
"Public data from the census shows that military veterans are civic-minded," said IVMF's Nick Armstrong. "They tend to vote more, volunteer more, give back, engage in their communities. In Congress, they see an opportunity to lead and continue their service in different ways."
Did you vote today?🗳️ ☑️

There's something employers want even more.
Excellent article for employers to read about military transitioning members!
