Image shown is a blown axle seal. Since the 1990s automotive manufacturers have moved away from drum brakes which contained a brake cylinder that in which after age and wear will result in brake fluid leaking from behind the drum. The vehicle shown is a 2004 Ford Mustang which is equipped with disc brakes on all 4 wheels. If these brakes were leaking fluid would be present on the brake rotor and brake caliper. Fluid is only present on the backing plate from around the axle giving me a clear shot at diagnosing the problem.
Not all jobs are as easy or simple to diagnose or complete. But I’ll be darned if I won’t take a look!
