Project Grass Fire ZR1.

Traded a 1989 Corvette Challenge car that was never raced for a 1991 ZR-1 that had started a grass fire while running at a car show. The rear floor and shift tunnel were cooked to a soft fiberglass mat. It need a rear floor and shift tunnel replacement.

We took the opportunity to install 4:09 gears, a short throw shifter and new exhaust.

This winter we’ll fully port and cam the recently rebuilt LT5.

It was a very nice ZR-1 before the grass fire and is even better today.

The previous owner supplied many new parts.
The work cost only $800 to complete.

One addition to the ZR-1 convertible panels that have been produced for a great customer is the widening of an early C4 rear bumper for his ZR-1. Yes, I said early rear bumper widened. Finishing touches up today on the center portion. This will attach to a 1989 ZR-1 convertible. Enjoy the pictures.

ZR-1 Convertible rear surround and decklid in primer today.

This has been a very long project. There were never any production 1990 to 95 ZR one convertibles built and sold of the public only a few prototypes. These are going to a great guy in California. He has a great vision for a convertible ZR-1 that he’s building. It’s been a pleasure to do this work for him.

GM Engineering . Future project. One of two existing of 30 1986 corvettes given to Lotus without drivetrains. Lotus modified the cars for development LT5 engines and mated to ZF 6 speeds. These 30 cars received Phase 1 LT5’s.

This particular car was assigned “cold start testing” duties up to the Arctic Circle. Read about this story in The Heart Of The Beast.

GM ordered these cars destroyed in a UK salvage yard where two cars were rescued for rebuilding.

A full restoration will be completed with a rebuilt Phase 1 LT5.
