When “Nobody Can Haul It” Isn’t Good Enough
We were contacted by Luke McFadden about hauling away a boat that had already defeated just about everyone else. Luke told us 10 people before us had been contacted about getting rid of it. Some couldn’t do it, some didn’t want to do it, and others looked at it and simply said they couldn’t get rid of it.
It was too big.
After looking at the specs, I wasn’t as worried about moving it as I was about actually getting it down the road. The boat had a 12½-foot beam, so the width alone was going to make transporting it a serious challenge. Add the height on top of that, and we had a whole different problem.
So, we came up with a plan.
I cut the top off the boat and hauled it to the landfill. Unfortunately, the scale wasn’t wide enough for it, but we worked out a price with them and they allowed us to dump it.
Luke then towed the boat across the bay to a ramp that could accommodate something this size. That also saved us from having to haul this monster through Pasadena.
Once we got to the ramp, my truck really struggled getting it out. That’s when I figured there had to be water inside.
And there was. 😳
The boat was actually actively sinking while Luke was towing it across the bay. We ended up finding easily 1,000+ gallons of water inside.
This boat should have weighed around 17,000 pounds originally with the top and engine still in it. After removing the top, engine, and all that water, it still weighed 16,000 pounds after draining overnight.
We estimated that the boat, water, and trailer were over 30,000 pounds when we started.
Definitely not your average boat haul!
And speaking of Luke and boats, he has some pretty cool history sitting around too. Luke owns a 1940s military hydrofoil boat, and from what he has told me, only two of them were ever made. In one of his videos, he was out on the water when the wings on it fell into the water and sank.
Go check out Luke’s YouTube channel for the video! There’s some seriously cool stuff on there.
I told Luke that his boat and I have something in common…
His boat and I can’t fly! 😂
HUGE shoutout to Luke McFadden
I want to give a massive thank you to Luke for trusting Honey Badger Hauling with this project.
Luke is genuinely one of the most genuine guys I’ve ever met, and the same goes for his crew. On camera and off camera. I honestly feel honored that he reached out to us and trusted us to take this project on.
And Luke said something during this whole process that absolutely made my day:
Luke: “Bro only has one leg. We aren’t going to lose!” 😂
That right there pretty much sums up the attitude we had going into this project. It was a massive job, but we were determined to get it done.
If you want some fresh crabs, go check out Luke’s stand or have them shipped right to you! 🦀
And another HUGE shoutout to Josh and Anchors & Oars for allowing us to store the boat at his store overnight. That was an absolute lifesaver and made this whole project possible.
If you need **boat parts—especially sailboat parts—**reach out to Anchors & Oars. They ship too!
This one definitely goes in the books as another Honey Badger Hauling recovery that most people said couldn’t be done. 💪
