Updated: NHTSA Directs GM to Correct Headlamp Glare on 727,000 GMC Terrains

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has directed General Motors (GM) to recall approximately 727,000 model year 2010–17 GMC Terrain vehicles because their headlamps do not comply with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FVMSS).

Regulators on Friday turned down GM’s request that it declare the problem inconsequential, which would have relieved the automaker of the burden of contacting owners and providing a no-cost repair.

Volvo Cars Teams up With Starbucks for Pilot EV Charging Network

Volvo Cars U.S. (VOLVb.ST) said on Tuesday it was partnering with coffee giant Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) to create a public electric vehicle (EV) charging network that is set to begin this summer. The Swedish automaker maker said that its pilot installations would include as many as 60 Volvo-branded ChargePoint DC fast chargers at up to 15 Starbucks store locations.

The prices of new cars continue to rise along with the fuel to power them, but shoppers can turn to fuel-efficient used vehicles to minimize sticker shock at the dealership and at the pump. Below is a list of 2017 model-year vehicles with the highest EPA combined fuel-economy ratings, broken down by vehicle type (car, SUV, minivan and pickup truck) and powertrain type (gas-only, hybrid and plug-in hybrid). The median price among Cars.com dealers as of February is provided for each vehicle; it factors in all trim levels of the model listed, not just the most fuel-efficient one. For all eligible PHEVs, we include the estimated federal tax credit amount.

According to a story by Car and Driver magazine, This the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says it has received 354 complaints from Tesla drivers regarding unexpected automatic "phantom" braking incidents over the past nine months. The NHTSA says Tesla drivers have reported "that the rapid deceleration can occur without warning, at random, and often repeatedly in a single drive cycle."

Honda automatic emergency braking problems are the focus of a federal investigation following 107 complaints about the systems in Accords and 171 in CR-Vs.

The complaints, as well as additional early warning reports, were filed about 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with Honda's Collision Mitigation Braking Systems.

3g Network Shutdowns Likely to Have Greater Impact on Vehicle Features Than Repairability

AT&T phased out its 3G network earlier this week “to invest in 5G and improve its network.” Along with the move, some in-vehicle functions were nixed and collision repair centers may also be facing issues.

According to CNBC, updates, remote communications, emergency, and convenience features will no longer work in Tesla, Audi, Honda, Nissan, Volkswagen, and Stellantis vehicles – as new as the 2021 model year – operating on 3G. On the repairer side of the coin, AirPro Diagnostics Automotive Technology Solutions Senior Vice President Chuck Olsen told Repairer Driven News some shops – more on the mechanical side with programming – will be affected.

I recently took my 2010 RAV4 to the Shadow Lake Collision Center to have some body work done, and they did an excellent job. The handled all of the insurance paper work involved with the claim and kept me informed of the progress of the job. My car was delivered at the time they promised.
