Blood test results came back contaminated only one final judgment waiting for and they think rhinovirus was the main cause for sudden heart rate drops then low oxygen levels they said it’s a strange event of things that virus can do in a newborn and he could have got it from any nurse or doctor the following days after being born .So They stopped all antibiotics and winged him off oxygen there feeling very confident about it that he does not have meningitis and will be watching to ensure he doesn’t develop a fever or any other symptoms. They just came in and said discharge tomorrow afternoon if everything remains stable! Say some prayers we come home tomorrow! As much as we want to come home we want to be sure he is safe to come home. He has done great! Lord, please keep him safe! 🩵🩵

Not great news we just got. Cultures came back. Our sweet boy has bacterial meningitis. They feel confident about his prognosis as he has been getting treated with those antibiotics already. Unfortunately, we will be here 10-14 days. He will require a PICC line for long term antibiotics. They said they are not worried about neurological side effects or outcome at this point because of how normal and appropriate he is acting. They will have PT and OT follow him just to be sure everything stays as is. We will still be seeing cardiology at some point today but because all his cardiac work up has been normal they feel confident this is all related to rhinovirus and meningitis at this time. Infectious disease will also be coming around to see him. My heart hurts and I hate seeing him like this and going through all this. They said they weren’t worried about long term effects bc how early it was caught. They will recheck his hearing after treatment Just to ensure it wasn’t affected by antibiotic treatment. Please keep praying for sweet Nicholas. My heart is broken!but staying strong for my son

So far all the CSF test are negative. Still waiting on csf cultures but she is confident it isn’t meningitis at this point. Still waiting on other blood cultures as well. Because the first one came back with a serious infection in the blood and double checking bases He is on several different antibiotics right now as preventative and/or cautionary. He is stable right now and they are taking great care of him. He is on 4L of oxygen at 50% but feel confident they can wean down to 21% (which is normal). He got to take his first bottle just now since 7pm last night and is a happy boy right now. Hopefully we don’t need a PICC line as they are hopeful a lot of these antibiotics can be discontinued in 48 hours. If something comes back he will need a pic line for 14 day antibiotic course which would be done in the hospital. They repeated his heart echo and it came back normal but will still be following up with cardiology today to be sure no concerns due to the bradycardia spells (dropping his heart rate). They are hoping to move him out of ICU tomorrow if he stays stable and okay today/tonight. They said we will be here through the rest of the week more than likely. They want him to eat whenever and however much but aim for at least 60ccs. I think these are the main updates right now! His has been a true trooper his first six days
