The awards are done! We got the third-fastest time on leg 8.

Ironically, just before the awards began Joelene sent me this photo she took of me just after leg 8, while we were waiting for a hotel room.

It was a long day, and apparently we fought hard for that one. 😂

The Air Race Classic is an annual all women cross-country air race held in late June. The route, usually 2,200 miles or more, and four days.

Joelene calculated some statistics of our race, that are kind of fun:

19.0 hours of flying,
2,269 nautical miles,
271 gallons of 100LL,
5 quarts of oil burned,
Countless compliments on our cool aviation shirts,
216 hours nonstop Joelene has had to put up with me and my shenanigans. 🤣

Adventure of a lifetime: priceless. ❤️

So now we wait for the final scores. We have our preliminary scores, we just don’t know our penalties yet or how everyone else did. We’ll find that out Sunday evening at the banquet.

In the meantime, we had a dinner/party last night, complete with chair massages, which totally hit the spot (heh heh get it), and a little welcome party for a team that came in really late, after some wingtip damage when their wingtip tangled with some construction equipment at one of the stops.

Today we meet with the judges and there’s a youth event, and lots of camaraderie.

Tonight, the Racers are celebrating their completed race at the Meltdown Party.

We made it!! Hello Colorado!

Had a bit of a headwind on the last leg and had to climb above some clouds, but the clouds opened up just before our final checkpoint (our best one yet😝) and then all we had to do was get to the airport and land.

Thanks again to all the amazing volunteers who were there to help us unload the plane, get us to the airport, and do all the countless things behind the scenes to help us out!
