Tip Of The Month

Compressor Oil Capacity

When replacing the A/C compressor or any A/C system component it’s important to replace any compressor oil lost during parts change. A low oil level can starve the compressor for oil and lead to compressor failure.

BEWARE: Do not overfill too much oil will hinder cooling performance.

General guidelines for replacing oil when changing components:

Accumulator – 2.0oz
Compressor - 1.4oz
Condenser - 1.0oz
Evaporator - 2.0oz
Hoses - 1.0oz
Receiver drier - 1.0oz
The total oil added to compensate for parts replacement should NEVER exceed total oil capacity for system. It’s always recommended to follow OEM recommendations.

Tip Of The Month
June, 2017:

What's That Smell?

Summer is here and you turn on the A/C only to find an odor coming from the vents!

That musty/moldy smell is most likely mildew growing in your systems evaporator and condenser cores.

This is not uncommon and easily treated by spraying a forming system cleaner on both cores and changing the cabin filters.

Spring Cleaning

After a long harsh winter it’s a good idea to perform a little preventive maintenance on your a/c and cooling systems. I would consider the Preventive Maintenance guide below as the minimum intervals for most heavy duty applications.

Air Conditioning

Clean condenser grill----------------- 3,000 Miles
Check for leaks at all connections—3,000 Miles
Check/adjust compressor drive belt-3,000 Miles
Replace compressor drive belt------24,000 Miles

Cooling System

Check coolant level-------------------1,000
Drain/replace coolant----------------12,000
Check radiator hoses------------------1,000
Check radiator cap--------------------1,000
Radiator should be flushed once a year fall or Spring.

Compressor Failure

Other then hose leaks, Compressors have the highest rate of failure of all vehicle A/C

components. Compressors rarely fail on their own, so it’s imperative that the cause of the

failure be diagnosed and corrected when replacing the compressor. If this is bypassed the

replacement compressor will fail in a short time.

Compressors are small engines. Engines almost always fail due to lubrication or coolant

problems.

Compressors fail for the same reasons.

A SHOUT OUT TO MATTHEWS BUSES FOR HELPING TO MAKE " A GIFT FOR TEACHING" A HUGE SUCCESS

On March 29, 2014, Matthews Buses was a sponsor for A Gift For Teaching Back-to-School Blast charity event. It was held at the Rosen Shingle Hotel in Orlando, FL. The charity benefits Osceola, Orange and Seminole County Schools by supplying school supplies and even food for kids in need. A Gift For Teaching has raised over 80 million dollars since they first started in 1999 for those school districts. Read More...https://buspartsexperts.3dcartstores.com/A-Gift-For-Teaching-_b_5.html

Compressor Oil

Why are some companies shipping compressors without oil, while others continue to ship with a full oil charge? I don’t know the answer or which way is the best way or even if one is better then the other. What I do know is if the compressor has Inadequate or excessive oil in the system, there will be loss of performance and compressor damage....Read More

Tip Of The Month

Dec, 2013:
WINTER CHECK LIST

1) Make sure all lights, mirrors, gauges, exhaust, and emergency equipment are in good working order.

2) Replace any tires showing signs or wear.

3) Check all door weather stripping to ensure exhaust fumes never enter the bus.

4) Check the heater and defroster unit for good operation.

5) Inspect the engine compartment for cracked water hoses, worn belts, leaking water pump, or radiator.

6) Even in the winter months it's very important to maintain the cooling system.
