We took on the 24 hours of lemons in our lemony fresh MR2 at CMP. This would be our 3rd shot at trying to win (so far a pair of seconds). Really cool event with a parade downtown with free music and beer. We were doing very well until a axle failed and that 45 minute fix cost us a chance of a win. Worked our way back to 6th over the next 13 hours of racing.

Well, since that last update, our Mike Ulbrik won the 2016 SARRC North championship, Chip O'Toole came runner up in the South and won the 2017 Southern half of the title. So thats an accomplishment.
We also fielded 2 cars for the first SCCA Bracket enduro at Sebring in July, winning both brackets entered. The faster of the 2 was Dave's old ITB Del Sol ("Del Slo") fitted with the running gear of a 95 Integra GSR with a limitted slip and some new bearings on the bottom end - an axle and brake eating monster but a good canvas for future work. The slower of those, an MR2 built to 24 Hours of Lemons rules, also filled in for an ailing ITB car at Barber for Steve, and carried the team to its maiden Lemons race at the same track, and then to a very strong 2nd place in B class at CMP this year.
Speaking of CMP, the Central Carlina Region SCCA and TrackSpeed Motorsports shared a loss last year when Herb O'Toole took the checkered flag in June. CCR honored him this year by renaming the Memorial Monster, typically held on Memorial Day weekend, to The Herb O'Toole Memorial Race. Mike and Chip made the long tow up and came home with 1 broken gear box in Mike's car (shift fork bolt broke) and a dented RR fender on Chip's MR2, but also a couple of uncontested 1st place trophies for the CCPS races, and a 3rd and 1st for Chip In The SARRC sprints. The Old Phart was smiling from on high that day.

TrackSpeed had a great weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park for the CCR SCCA Memorial Monster. Tropical Storm Bonnie waddled the attendance for Sunday, but the event was great regardless. Mike won the SARRC races, with Chip second. Chip and Steve shared the #22 MR2 for a win in the Carolina Cup Pro Series Saturday, and Steve ran the shortened Sunday race alone, also taking a win.
Good times.

Journey to the 24 hours lemons race has started. Drive to Atlanta for a tad over 6 hours in a classic Toyota. To meet up and ride/drive rig to Illinois autobahn speedway and race another classic Toyota with the guys at hong north C!

Just got back from testing at the SCCA TT event at Roebling road. Steve has a new megasquirt 3.0 in his car and Jeff Linfert from linfert performance provided extra trackside tuning support. It was a beautiful day and on new tires a track record of 1:24.3 was run. Looking forward to the first race of the new season at sebring in two weeks!
Sorry for the delayed response. The TSM crew proved to be very competitive at VIR. If you have never been to this track it is one to visit. Both races were led by Steve in his MR2. Unfortunately both races were run by the local hot shoe Steve Strickland. Overheating caused Steve to loose the last race. This will be corrected later. After that Steve and Mike finished the journey at Carolina motorsports park. Once again it was hot TSM was able to come away with a 1st and a 3rd.
In June TSM ran at RRR. The first race was cut short for Steve in his car when him and another driver got together in turn 2. The car was repaired via hammers and pry bars for the second race where he finished 2nd to the soon to be crowned 2014 SARRC champion.
Steve and Mike are preparing for the VIR SARRC/MARRS this weekend. More to come...
TrackSpeed just finished leg 1 of the northern tour, MARRS 1 at Summit Point. Steve ran the test day Friday and showed what he learned with a 4th in class lap of 1'32.3 on Saturday morning, while Mike was unable to make Friday and spent the morning qualifying session learning his way around.
Chip came up to support, and Josh drove down from his new digs in Ohio to lend a hand and hang out. We finally met many of our friends from the WDCR face to face, and made many new ones.
Saturday's race saw Steve turn a well timed start into a class lead. Unfortunately the speed of the competition in summit's long straights was too much for the MR2, and Steve finished 5th in class in a great race. Mike continues to learn the track and dropped another 10s from his morning times, putting them right in with the local MR2 group.
Sunday's main race started well, Mike was dicing it up with the MARRS regular MR2s and Steve was running 3rd in class for a bit. Mike's race ended early when a belt separated in his right rear tire. Steve was called in for smoking which turned out to be a failed cam seal pumping oil out. Not the way we wanted it to end but a great weekend regardless.
Nothing beats a weekend at the track, and this one was no exception. Beautiful weather and an incredibly well run event by the WDCR. Other regions should pay attention to their operations, possibly the smoothest running regional weekend we've participated in.
A special thank you to AJ, Steve B, and the rest of the "no class" paddock as well as the entire MARRS crew for being so hospitable, to DC region SCCA for a great weekend, and to all the friends new and old we met along the way.

Wow what a summer, ending on high as last weekend Steve clinched the 2013 SARRC championship in ITB with a win at the SARRC Invitational Challenge at Roebling Road. video will be up on YouTube soon.

Today we added a front splitter/air dam to the "Del Slo" and we're pretty happy with the results. It has adjustable height and rake, and can be removed with 6 bolts to make securing the car in the trailer easier.
We're late to the Facebook game, but we have been doing this racing thing a long time. Check back often as thing will change quickly...

Here is Nicks race on Saturday.
It was a good battle the whole time. Spilled oil on the track made racing even more interesting.
At the end you'll hear some shifting issues. His cable bracket had broke. Still managed a 2nd. Around 4:30 you can see the oil was spilled.
