🥪 I’M HUNGRY! LET’S EAT! 🥪

August is National Sandwich Month, and we have a delicious camping recipe for you!

Grab the electric or cast-iron skillet, gather the kiddos, and make mealtime extra fun by letting everyone create their own Monte Cristo Sandwich! Adult supervision is recommended around the hot skillet.

Ingredients:

🍞 2 thick slices of white bread
🥄 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
🥄 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
🍖 2 slices deli ham
🧀 7 grams grated Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
🥚 1 egg, beaten
🧈 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
🧂 Salt and pepper to taste

Let’s get cooking!

1. Spread mayonnaise on one slice of bread. Add the ham and cheese, then season with salt and pepper.
2. Spread mustard on the second slice and place it mustard-side down on top. Gently press the sandwich together.
3. Pour the beaten egg into a shallow bowl and add a few pinches of salt and pepper.
4. Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, turning it over to coat both sides thoroughly.
5. Melt the butter in a large pan or electric skillet over medium heat.
6. Cook the sandwich for approximately 3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted.
7. Place it on a paper towel briefly to absorb any excess butter—then dig in!
