It’s been 10yrs now with the 3.6 swapped into my mk4 R and now finally I feel like it’s complete in what I was trying to do. The idea was a “what if” VW made 1000 mk4 R36s along with the 5k R32s, what would be different?

I wanted to finally post about what I’ve been working on in my limited free time the first half of this year. This is our 2.5l/ 2490cc type 1 oe magnesium case engine. 96x86. The goal was to build a fun street engine capable of 200 naturally aspirated wheel hp and have plenty of torque. It had both, so much so bigger front brakes are going on asap. There is more testing and what not to be done, hoping to hit 210whp and be able to offer a complete engine, harness, ecu w/ tune package in the new year. This road racing A3 performed well last weekend at NJMP. We did the motor and transmission build, custom oil cooler and dsg cooler mounting on tubular front rebar. Added Rs/s 3 side radiators for additional cooling. Installed rs3 in tank pump, inline 10 micron filter, MPI, EQT vortex XL turbo tuned on making 500whp at 28psi leaving him at the required average hp of 394 needed for his class. Once gets fully used to the new setup I’m sure he’ll be torturing people on track.

More DDKA 2.5vrt weirdness and experimenting. Removed the head to find teeny tiny valves compared to the 24v,R32,3.6 counterparts. Was just enough room to install 3.2/3.6 seats for both intake and exhaust valves. We then had pops take a crack at porting head to smoothly transition to the new enlarged valvetrain. Once done we set the stem heights on new valves and planed it. Now back together with the turbo kit with Garrett g35-1050 we made for Fred we’ll see what kind of spool and power this thing can make now.
