- Tucson Dragway gates are open 8-5 Thursday, Oct 16. Load in early if you can. Open 7 am Friday 10/17.
- Sadly, Steve Dulcich will not attend. Don’t worry, he’s all good.
- If you have a MotorTrend TV car, we have space for you across from the bonfire
- Don’t forget drag cars must pass NHRA safety rules for the et they run
- Burnout cars must have the powered tires covered with a fender or sheetmetal. No wall riding (nose in the wall).
- All participant spots are sold out. We only have spectator tickets for sale
- We are streaming live on Freedom Plus starting 12:30 local time on Saturday
- The cruise from the LA area to Tucson meets at 7 am Friday at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 221 E Riverside Drive, Ontario, CA 91761

I'm sorry I have been slacking this past year. I have been very busy enjoying life and gathering content along the way.

Fact Slap 👋

Because of the Roman Empire, our railways have the gauge of 4ft 8.5inches. The reason for this is when the first railways were laid in England, the wagons already existed form the days of horse and cart. The wagon builders used what the knew and continued to build wagons and trucks from the new railways, that at the time was seen as an expensive fad. To keep prices down the railway engineers used the gauge of the existing wagons.

The wagons were build to fit the rutted roads of the UK, these roads had existed for hundreds of years, the original Roman roads formed the backbone of the road network. The Romans built the roads to moved their armies and war chariots around their vast Empire. As we know the Romans loves standardisation of their equipment so all War chariots were built to a 4ft 8.5inch wheel gauge, why? Because that is roughly the width of two horses side by side.

So in short, one Roman war chariot builder set the standards for UK railways about 1500 years before they existed.

Interestingly, due to the Romans, the space shuttle boosters rockets were meant to be bigger but as they had to transported from the factory in Utah via train, they had to fit through a railway tunnel that was built for a standard 4ft 8.5inch railway.
