A music video I directed for Beyond the Pale by Andrew Wyatt is here.
Beyond the Pale is a breakup song about memories and regrets of failed love. But those feelings can also act as fuel, a powerful energy that can transform and push you to the limits of what you thought was possible and alter your sense of reality. For the music video, I always knew that we were going to play with a representation of what was real and what was fake. The memories of past lovers don't actually have the power to haunt us on their own. We are the ones who set these projections in motion as if we wanted to take a ride through them and break beyond our emotional limits.
I wanted to work in Poland for a long time and from the very start I knew that this video had to be shot there. I was thrilled to partner with Papaya Films at the early stages of development and worked closely with Tomasz Kulesza on translating my vision into reality. Papaya Films suggested that we work with Tilt VFX, the Ukrainian VFX team that created the content for the screen projections. Sergei from Tilt VFX worked out of a bunker in Kyiv using generators during Putin's offensive. I think that poetic force of perseverance is an important element of this video.
