Dear Commercial Driver License and/or Commercial Learner Permit holder,

The NY State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offers motorists the option to receive email and/or text reminders before their driver license, non-driver ID card, registration, or vehicle inspection expires. Motorists can sign up for this program on the DMV website.

We are excited to share that DMV’s Electronic Reminders system will now notify enrolled CDL/CLP holders via periodic emails and/or text messages when their medical certification or medical variance is about to expire. CDL/CLP holders will also receive alerts when a medical certification or medical variance status changes, when a downgrade to a non-CDL and/or a CLP cancellation occurs, or when DMV updates a medical certification or variance.

We hope that this new addition to the Electronic Reminders system assists you in maintaining your CDL or CLP driving privilege!

To enroll in the Electronic Reminders system, complete the Electronic Reminders form. Upon completion, you will be enrolled to receive all types of notifications sent through the system. This includes medical certification and medical variance reminders, as well as license renewal reminders, registration renewal reminders and inspection reminders.

If you are already receiving electronic reminders and want to continue receiving them, you do not need to do anything. However, if you want to stop receiving electronic reminders, you must select ‘unsubscribe’ on the subscription page.

Drivers must sign up to receive their own notifications as the Electronic Reminders system will only send notifications to the email address or cell phone number provided upon sign-up.

Thank you.

NY State Department of Motor Vehicles
