We’re saddened to learn that Ed Iskenderian has passed away at the age of 104.
Ed was one of the true pioneers of hot rodding. From dry lakes racing in Southern California to founding Isky Cams, his work helped shape how engines were built, raced, and understood. When waiting weeks for a reground cam proved too long, Ed bought a cam-grinding machine and taught himself the craft, setting in motion a career that would influence generations of racers and builders.
He introduced new ways of thinking about camshaft design, embraced early computer testing, and helped define the idea of selling complete, matched performance components. Beyond the parts themselves, Ed was instrumental in building the industry around them, co-founding what became SEMA and supporting racers at a time when sponsorship was still a new concept.
Ed Iskenderian’s impact wasn’t just technical, it was cultural. His curiosity, generosity, and lifelong enthusiasm for speed left a lasting mark on hot rodding worldwide.
Rest in peace, Ed.
Thank you for everything.
We’re also grateful to our good friends and supporters in the Bungholers Car Club, who have shared a true treasure chest of photographs documenting Ed and his long connection to the club. These images offer a rare, personal look at Ed not just as an innovator, but as a fellow hot rodder among friends.
