Check engine light coming on?

One of the most common reasons we are seeing that check engine light come on EVAP system issues.

EVAP stands for evaporative emissions control system...the job of this system is to prevent harmful fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. Gasoline naturally evaporates, and without this system, those vapors vent into the air.

Fuel vapors from your gas tank are routed into a charcoal canister, where they are stored. When conditions are right, the engine opens a purge valve and draws those vapors back into the engine to be burned---essentially recycling fuel that would otherwise be wasted.

It's a simple idea, but the system itself has a lot of components working together:
-gas cap
-charcoal canister
-purge and vent valves
-EVAP lines and hoses
-pressure sensors

Because there are so many parts, there are also a lot of opportunities for something to go wrong. Common EVAP related issues we see include:
-small leaks in hoses and/or lines
-sticking purge or vent valves
-cracked or damaged canisters

The tricky part is that many of these problems don't affect how your vehicle drives. You may not notice anything at all---except that check engine light! Even a small leak can trigger a fault code...over time unresolved EVAP issues can lead to reduced fuel efficiency.

Bottom line:
That check engine light isn't always something major---but it is something important. If your light is on, especially for an EVAP related code, it's best to have it properly diagnosed. What might be a simple fix now can turn into a more involved repair if you wait.

Call now for an appointment and we will keep your vehicle running smooth and efficiently!

Let's address a recent problem we have been seeing over the past few weeks...

Don't let a coolant hose leave you stranded! Lately we have seen a growing number of vehicles coming in (sometimes on a tow truck) with coolant leaks caused by a hose that has failed from the inside out.

Over time, the inside of a coolant hose can deteriorate, weaken, and separate internally. A failed coolant hose can quickly lead to the engine overheating--leaving you stranded on the side of the road and potentially causing expensive engine damage.

Regular cooling system inspections can catch this problem before they become emergencies. If your vehicle is several years old, has higher mileage, or you're planning a road trip...it's a good idea to have your cooling system checked.

Don't wait until a small problem turns into a tow truck ride. Call us today 330-879-2609 and schedule so you can drive with confidence!

Have a great weekend!

Tire rotations are about more than just getting more life out of your tires--a routine tire rotation is actually one of the best opportunities to catch a problem early, before it turns into costly repairs!

When your tires are rotated, that gives us a clear view of components you normally can't see during everyday driving.
During that time we are able to check:
-brake pad and rotor condition
-signs of uneven, or abnormal, tire wear
-worn steering and suspension components like ball joints, tie rods, and bushings
-leaks or damage that would otherwise go unnoticed

These are issues that often develop slowly--without regular inspections, they can go undetected until they affect your safety and/or lead to expensive repairs.

Tire wear still matters too. Rotating your tires helps them wear evenly, which:
-extends the life of your tires
-improves ride quality
-maintains proper handling and traction

Uneven wear can also be a warning sign of bigger issues like alignment problems and/or worn suspension parts---that is exactly what we are watching for during a rotation.

Bottom line...a tire rotation isn't just maintenance, it's a built in inspection that helps protect your tires, your vehicle, and your safety.

We recommend rotating your tires every 5,000-10,000 miles. A simple service today that will help prevent bigger problems tomorrow.

Happy July!

Jumping right back in after our week off...it's been a busy week, and it's a SCORCHER out there!

As the summer heat ramps up, we are seeing more vehicles coming into the shop for air conditioning concerns. If your A/C doesn't seem as cold as you remember, it's important to understand how your system is designed to work.

Many people expect their A/C to blow ice-cold air no matter how hot it is outside. In reality--your vehicle's air conditioning system can only lower the air temperature by a certain amount compared to the outside temperature. On extremely hot days, especially when temperatures climb into the 90s and higher, your A/C has to work much harder to keep the inside of your vehicle comfortable.

Another factor is that today's vehicles use newer refrigerants that are much more environmentally friendly, but they generally don't cool quite as efficiently as the older refrigerants you may remember. That doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with your vehicle--it may simply be operating as designed.

One of the biggest mistakes we are seeing is people trying to recharge their A/C systems themselves using over the counter recharge kits. While they may seem like a quick, inexpensive fix, many of these products contain leak sealants. Those sealants can harden inside your vehicle's A/C system contaminating expensive components such as the compressor, condenser, and evaporator. It can also quickly damage professional refrigerant recovery equipment---this is why we can't service your vehicle if the system has been tampered with; just hooking our equipment to a contaminated system will ruin our machine.

If your A/C isn't performing as it should, the best solution is to have it properly diagnosed. We can verify the refrigerant charge, check system pressures, inspect for leaks, and determine the actual cause of the problem without risking damage to the system.

Don't let the summer heat catch you off guard...if your A/C isn't keeping you comfortable call and set up an appointment! We can inspection your system, explain what we find, and help keep you cool all summer long.
