Yesterday I began going through some old magazines and factory service manuals I got from a friend of mine who passed away a few years ago.

Randomly in the papers were old clippings from photo ads and where he had posted a lot of his Land Cruisers for sale / wanted ads.

Randomly in the file was a piece of paper with “FJ45” written on it along with a name in cursive and a phone number. This friend of mine started in the cruiser world in 1989 the year I was born, for all I know this could be a 30 plus year old piece of paper….

So I figured sure why not give it a shot. I called and left a message explaining I had a piece of paper with a Land Cruiser that was possibly for sale. Less than 24 hours a phone call was returned and believe it or not the answer was “well actually yes…”

The owner is planning to relocate and is looking to sell both a 1965 FJ40 and a 1967 FJ45.

Life’s a trip. Don’t ever stop chasing what you love. I sure do you miss you Bob you Irish prick. Thanks for the lead.

Last thing Bob sold me was a puller set where I keep his prayer card to this day. 🙏🤙🤘

Many of us had seen this FJ55 lingering on marketplace for a while. After reaching out and speaking to the owners I then touched base with .tailor .

Jason .tailor took on a lot of work for this FJ55 back in June of 2020. FJ62 disc brake conversion, paint and body work, sniper kit from the list went on and on…

Thanks to Jason’s documentation of his work performed before, during, and after this was an easy purchase to justify.

I drove up to Pine Grove, California and grabbed it as soon as I was back from a trip in Montana.

Now… Fast forward…

The circle... The circle of friends that I always look for because I know what they want and dream of finding.

Well sadly reached out about 4 years ago saying how bad he had always wanted a pig. Doesn’t everyone? Oh ya add on the request. “Little to no rust would be ideal!” (Dreamers I swear…. 🙄)

Well I knew that wife was going to kill me the second I grabbed this car. Congratulations to you and the family for adding your 3rd Land Cruiser to your collection.

Really stoked to see such an amazing cruiser go to such a kind human being and his great family. Follow .chapo to see this FJ55 come to life.

More to report on this sad sapper sucker in August.

But for now I’ll give you all the skinny on it. Acquired this 1966 FJ45LV off the ole Facebook marketplace (sorry if you tried to buy it and it didn’t work out.)

Picked up out of Minnesota it’s now temporarily hanging with our good friends until I’m back out that way for .

Sadly during transport not the best decisions were made by the transport driver. With that being said this LV arrived in a much different condition than these photographs shown. It’s possible that might not be the only one who enjoyed a convertible LV.

FOR SALE

First things first i’m representing this sale for an elderly friend of mine, potential buyers this will be shown by appointment only.

Location: Buellton, California (roughly 2.5 hours north of Los Angeles or 4.5 hours south of San Francisco)

1976 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser
Chevy V8 conversion
FJ60 power steering box swap
4 Speed manual trans
Front disc brake axle
Clean California title in hand in owners name
Current non op status with California DMV (No back fees)
Starts, runs, and drives has been sitting the past 2 years since her husband has passed.
Rust issues I can clearly see that present are the roof.
Overall the rest of the FJ55 presents itself fairly decent on the paint and bodywork.

As far as the state of California goes with this V8 swap being smog legal I have absolutely no idea as so many things have changed over the years with BAR. The husband pursued obtaining a smog on it through a BAR referee but never fully completed the process. Buyers in state or out of state this is an as is sale. No further work will be completed and please pursue your own research prior to purchase to understand smog rules and regulations. Again, this vehicle will be sold as is and will not smogged.

Communication began November of 2021 to potentially acquire two FJ45LVs in Alaska. Let me say it again. Alaska…

Am I crazy? No. I’d say I’m intrigued by unique shipping logistics. Truly I have no idea why, I have no background in the freight industry at all.

Fast forward May - June 2023 over the course of two weekends both LV’s were removed from a very overgrown storage site. This involved cutting trees and multiple winch operations.

September 2023 both LV’s were determined to be in the parts car category and not salvageable what so ever. Between shipping to the lower 48 and then getting them to California the costs did not aligned, it was deemed a loss. With this arose an opportunity for an Alaskan local. A local LV owner that needed a roof badly for their own LV project.

Horse trading…

This is the part of the community I really enjoy. Random 45 minute FaceTime conversations with a total stranger having me point out parts I could use and listening about parts they could use. A new friend had possession of my LV’s and was willing to send parts my way.

December 12, 2023 a 735 pound boxed pallet packed with LV parts was dropped in Anchorage. Departing Anchorage, Alaska via Lynden arriving in Tacoma, Washington to then be transported ground to Oakland, California. This oversized Christmas package has finally arrived in Oakland and I’ll be unwrapping it in the new year.

Few months back I sourced a dealer option camper shell off a Toyota Stout ad on Facebook marketplace. It is absolutely hammered but I have never seen one in person that has survived. Originally custom built in Canoga Park by the company “Classic”.
