This customer was told the Timing set needed replaced. The real problem came from an incomplete repair. At some time the vacuum pump came apart. When the vacuum pump was replaced they left all the broken pieces inside the engine. This allowed the pieces to wedge between the cylinder head and the tone ring on the camshaft. This sudden stop caused the dowl pin in the phaser to bend and embed into the phaser body while causing the camshaft to divot where the pin lines up and spun the tone ring on the camshaft. This repair could have been avoided if the vacuum pump repair was performed properly. Come see us for your second opinion and let us make sure you are getting the proper repairs.
