🚨 Don’t overlook your bilge pump.

These photos are a good reminder of why bilge pump inspection should be part of your boat’s regular maintenance.

The pump itself can look fine from the outside, while the intake screen can become heavily clogged with debris, dirt, and buildup—restricting water flow when you need it most.

A properly functioning bilge pump can be the difference between removing water quickly and dealing with a much bigger problem.

⚓ A few things worth checking:

* Test the pump manually
* Test the automatic float switch
* Inspect and clean the pump intake
* Check the discharge hose for restrictions
* Inspect wiring and connections
* Make sure the discharge outlet is clear

💡 Your bilge pump is not something you want to discover isn’t working when you already have water in the boat.

Customer reported an intermittent no-start condition on a late-1990s boat equipped with a MerCruiser V6 engine. Diagnostic testing of the starting system indicated a failing starter/solenoid assembly.

The starter was removed and replaced with an OEM marine-grade starter. All connections and mounting hardware were secured, and the starting system was tested following installation. Proper starter engagement and normal starting operation were verified.

3 Things to Check After Every Boat Trip 🚤

Before you put the cover on and call it a day, take a few minutes to check:

🔧 1. Look for fluid leaks
Check around the engine, bilge, and lower unit for anything that doesn’t look right.

💧 2. Check the bilge ( if applicable)
A little water can be normal, but an unexpected increase could be a sign of a leak.

🛠️ 3. Take a quick look at the prop & lower unit
Check for fishing line, damage, or anything wrapped around the prop shaft.

A few minutes of checking now can help prevent a much bigger problem later.
