Twenty years after their inaugural circumnavigation defined the adventure motorcycling genre, best friends Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman reunite for one final, grueling odyssey. This time, the dynamic shifts dramatically with the addition of a third rider: enthusiastic but inexperienced young actor Tom (Tom Holland), who is determined to prove his mettle on the world stage. In a bold nod to the future of transport, Tom attempts the arduous trek on a prototype electric adventure motorcycle, while Ewan and Charley ride traditional combustion engines, adding a complex layer of logistical anxiety and range-anxiety to an already impossible route across distant continents.
Their ambitious path cuts deep into the unforgiving heart of Central Asia’s towering mountain ranges, a landscape hostile to any weakness. The journey is quickly fraught with mechanical failures, altitude sickness, and the constant, ticking-clock challenge of finding power for the electric bike in off-grid wilderness. The expedition grinds to a devastataing halt when they encounter a catastrophic obstacle in a remote, storm-battered valley: the main bridge crossing a violently swollen glacial river has completely collapsed, leaving them stranded on a dirt track with no easy return. Faced with depleting resources and impassable terrain, Ewan and Charley must draw on decades of combined experience to engineer a solution, while Tom faces a brutal initiation into the reality that on these roads, technology cannot always save you.
