AshSPEC BAMF Commander BETA RELEASE PROGRAM

The core development principle of the Boost And Mult-Function (BAMF) Commander was to create the absolute best of the best electronic boost controller. After more than two years of R&D, thousands of lines of code written, rewritten, and optimized through countless iterations of both in-car and bench testing, a myriad of hardware layer tweaks and improvements.... has achieved every bit and more of that original objective. This feature-packed device is dressed to impress.

The beta test program is purposed to analyze all relevant aspects: installation difficulty, documentation clarity, device usability, device functionality, potential environmental effects, device reliability, compatibility with all vehicle platforms, Smartphone interface functionality, windows application functionality and usability. Features:
Gear Select Detection - User can input gearing ratios, differential ratio, and tire diameter. The controller will auto detect what gear is being used.

6 Boost Profiles - When Boost-Per-Gear is enabled, the controller will use the corresponding Boost Profile Number for each of the gears.

In-Car Chassis Dynamometer: This advantages the remarkable capability of the microprocessor in this unit and it's very high accuracy in timing speed sensor and ignition pulse intervals. Both wheel horsepower and torque are displayed and has configuration options to account for aerodynamic and mechanical losses.

Graphical display page with split graph for plotting boost pressure AND wideband O2 Air/Fuel over an engine RPM Axis. This is a useful tool for tuning or for validating that your fuel delivery is in check.

8 Configurable I/O ports allow connectivity for additional sensors to be implemented and displayed on-screen. Anything from fuel or oil pressure sensors, oil/air/coolant/trans/diff/EGT temperature sensors, accelerometer or gyroscope, load/strain transducer, position sensor, angle position sensor... If a sensor outputs a 0-5V signal, it can be connected and it's data displayed. Any of these channels can also be used as control outputs to perform tasks such as trigger a relay or an LED indicator, turn on a
secondary fuel pump, control nitrous/fuel solenoids or produce a PWM signal for dynamic control of a water injection pump or
pneumatic solenoid valve.

Correlated Input Warning Feature adds a robust level of damage prevention by ensuring that all vital engine systems are working properly. This is done by monitoring two points of data, such as engine RPM and oil pressure, and ensuring that the oil pressure is never below the 10psi/1000RPM standard... or that the fuel pressure never falls below the 3-bar (44psi) pressure differential relative to intake manifold pressure. or that the A/F mixture ratio is never leaner than 12:1 when boost > 7psi. When pushing a car hard your focus needs to be on the road, NOT on the gauges.. But this is also the time that what the gauges are reporting is the most important! You can't do two things at once and this feature ensures that if some part of the system isn't keeping up, it will let you know right away so you can prevent catastrophic damage from draining your wallet and funtime.

Bluetooth Connectivity allows for connecting to the device with a smartphone to allow for datalogging of sensor data and output control parameters. This also opens possibilities for other control devices to link to the unit to share data - such as connecting with a
BT enabled OBD dongle to perform diagnostic processes or display a slew of real-time data available through the OBD interface. Lots of possibilities here.

Continued Feature Implementation is made possible through the unit's micro USB port that facilitates ease of uploading future firmware updates. A microUSB cable is provided with the unit and a windows-based program makes for quick and easy updating - quick, as in, ~10 seconds.

Future Feature Plans:
Active traction control is a strong possibility. At the least, a long-term trim routine would have the ability to adjust boost configuration parameters for each gear to maximize boost output just beneath the slip threshold. Other potential method to achieve this would be through active manipulation of the vehicle speed sensor signal to leverage the speed limiting routine within the engine management system. This would provide a safe means of immediate power reduction that can also be rapidly modulated.

Speed Density Translation for converting mass-airflow based EFI setups to a MAP configuration. This has already been fully developed within the AshSPEC Speed Density Translator system which is based upon the same hardware platform. Integrating this
functionality into the BAMF system does not appear to have any potential conflicts.

Aftermarket EMS Connectivity which will allow the engine management system to trigger immediate boost reduction/cut in the event the EMS detects excessive detonation or any other compromising condition. Most EMS have the ability to configure an output channel that can be triggered based upon a user-defined condition(s) such as detonation, or excessive engine temperature, etc. This would be a rather simple feature to implement but will obviously need to be tested and refined for use with any of the EMS options out there.

In addition, there exists another skunkworks feature that will unquestionably set this system apart from anything else that has been built before. Applications for provisional patenting are in the works and expected to be completed within the next few weeks. Be assured, however, you will not be disappointed once this is revealed.

ASHDASH Glass Dashboard System:

This dashboard system features a wide-bar TFT display of 1920X720 lines of high-resolution realestate to display far more information than you could ever pack into a dashboard with conventional gauges!

This system links in through the OBD diagnostic port to obtain engine information for real-time display AND includes an 8-channel analog->digital system for linking in additional sensors not native to the vehicle.

This system also has configurable data correlations for warning the user in the event that something isn't operating properly, such as oil pressure vs. RPM, fuel pressure vs. boost, and with a wideband O2 system, mixture ratio vs boost.

This dash system is the central hub for a much larger system: The BAMF: Boost And Multi-Function. This is a broad CANbus network of controllers for specific purposes such as traction control, knock detection, launch control, water injection.. And this also includes the Speed Density Translator system for the Z32.

The AshDASH system was developed 3 years back in early 2017 and has been running in two of my personal vehicles: 1991 Z32 and a 1986 Mazda B2200 swapped with a VG30DETT.

All of the parts necessary to install this system in a simple, bolt-in affair have been designed and manufactured. I am seeking a small number of individuals for this group to participate in a pre-release evaluation/feedback program. The potential feature possibilities for a system such as this are only limited by the imagination and one man can only do so much by himself!

I have created a private technical group here on Facebook specifically for this dashboard system pre-release to provide a venue for correspondence, updates, etc.

The projected retail price for the AshDASH system is ~$950. For the pre-release evaluation this will be discounted to $800. Members will be entitled to all future updates to system firmware at no cost for the duration of their ownership of the product.

This system currently is fully functional with the Z32 using the Nissan ECU system - either stock ECU or "chipped". Compatibility with both Haltech and AEM EMS systems is in the works, so if you have one of these aftermarket EMS's I would be happy to have you in the group for development purposes (more details if this is your case).

Just got in the first shipment of the thermal jackets for the exhaust manifolds!

These are produced from a basalt fiber and sewn with a combination of stainless steel threading and kevlar threading. They are designed to fit snugly to the manifolds to keep the heat in and a cooler engine bay as well. :)

Just received pictures of the new exhaust manifolds! These are being produced by a different foundry now and the surface finish is of much better quality than the previous parts. One of the biggest issues with the old foundry was the carelessness with the sand core that makes the hollow inside - there was a lot of casting flash left over from not cleaning up the core before the mold was assembled and this left a LOT of grinding work do be done on the inside to clean them up and make them ready to bolt-on.

Machining jigs are being made this week and the first batch will be completed next week.

Had a flash of genius last night about a way to fix the VTC rattle associated with vehicles using heavy duty valve springs and aftermarket camshafts. Just couldn't help myself this evening - stayed at the shop until 10:30 and have about 5 hours total for the prototype. I machined some trick parts in the process and am satisfied. This idea does not require any modification to the VTC gear at all. You dont even have to remove the VTC gears to install these parts. I just installed and tested about half an hour ago - absolutely no more noise! More to come...
