Allen Marine by a glacier.

Our Southeast Alaskan summers can be surprisingly warm, but it can still be very chilly when you are close to a glacier. Did you know that glaciers actually make their own weather patterns?

Not only does all that ice cool the surrounding air, but the colder air becomes denser than the warmer air further out. That cool, dense air will fall down the slope of the ice and create katabatic winds. The ice influences the weather!

If you are joining us on a glacier tour, be sure to bring layers to stay warm in the brisk, windy air while you are listening to the crack and crunch of the ice moving. It is an unforgettable experience!
