Stopped to look at the accident scene when I was out on Sunday, and couldn’t understand how someone could be so irresponsible and inept. If you’re not familiar with this spot, it’s a downhill S turn if you’re heading north. Nothing unpredictable or sharp, just a flowing downhill S. In a modern sports car with 4 massive contact patches on the road, you’d have to be in so far over your head speed and skill wise to lose control here, and then skid across the opposite lane and hit and kill a bicyclist who was just out getting some exercise and minding their own business. What an avoidable tragedy. My condolences to the innocent bicyclist and their friends and family affected by this negligent act.

PSA - You can enjoy our local mountain roads and spirited riding/driving without pushing it to the point of something like this happening. Really, you can! This is a public road that is for everyone to enjoy and travel - NOT A RACETRACK.

As a veteran motorcyclist, I enjoy spirited riding, but as a rider who has been doing track days for 25+ years, I also know what I, and my bike are capable of, and at that pace it has no place on public roads. Debris and fluids, animals, bicyclists and other vehicles are out there, not to mention that the forest isn’t a safe runoff when you get in too hot. Trees don’t move.

Dear Drivers, Everyone out there has right enjoy themselves without fear of being taken out by some weekend warrior who thinks he’s Ayrton Senna on a hot lap.

I know it’s a bit different for motorcyclists than it is for cars, because you’re more likely to only hurt yourself should you go down, but it’s still a possibility.

Dial it back 15-25% and I guarantee you’ll still enjoy yourself. You’ll also get home safely and live to do it again.
