Back in 1905, when the city was young,
A long-lasting legacy had just begun.
Walter J. Hughes stepped onto the street
With a plan to protect us from the cold and the heat.
Down on East Court Street, he set up the line,
Installing steam boilers ahead of his time.
Through two World Wars and the Great Depression
They kept Memphis comfortable, and made an impression.
Five generations, one family name
The weather keeps changing, but they stay the same
Since nineteen-and-five, they’ve answered the call
The oldest and best HVAC of them all!
Just dial five-two-six, twelve-ninety-six
There’s no heating or cooling that Hughes cannot fix!
Now the Bluff City climate can sure be a fright
You’ll be sweating by breakfast and into the night.
But if you want to be rid of these blues,
pick up your phone and get hold of Hughes.
They’ll fix up your churches, your doctors, your schools
With five generations of knowledge and tools.
They’ve got the local know-how that you just can't deny
With an A-plus tradition, they’re your best buy.

When your air conditioner goes up in smoke,
And the midday heat feels like a bad joke,
Don’t you sweat it out waiting on some corporate chain,
Call the local believers who know Memphis, mane.
A century of keeping our spirits alive
Family-owned, family-proud, since nineteen-and-five!
