This past weekend the club had An Afternoon in Hagerstown: Art, History, and Food . Starting off at the Washington County Musuem of Art. Where we enjoyed their Scandinavian Exhibit, Student Art Exhibition, and their permanent collection.

In their permanent collection is a bronze sculpture by Anna Huntington titled “Diana of the Chase”. This same sculpture was used as the radiator emblem on Diana Automobiles (1925-1928). Billed as ‘Americas easiest steering automobile’ it was a subsidiary of the Moon Automobile Company.

Then we walked over to the Jonathan Hager House, the frontier home of Hagerstown Founder. We learned about his personal life, revolutionary patriotism, and entrepreneurialism sprit during the early years of the country’s founding. Interestingly Hager built his house above two springs that formed two pools in the basement and then flowed out the side wall- ensuring the Hagers would always have a protected source of drinkable water and cold storage for provisions.
