Diagnosed a misfire on a Gen 3 LS 6.0 LQ4 today. Not the first broken valve spring I’ve found on one of these engines over the last few years. Due to this, any LS engine that comes through my shop for cylinder head work or head gaskets automatically gets a spring upgrade/replacement to ensure a long life and better experience for the customer. The valve did not drop on this one, so I will be replacing all 16 springs with the heads on the engine, saving the customer some money and getting the truck back on the road.

This Silverado with a Gen 4 LS 5.3 was referred to me by another shop with a cylinder 6 misfire concern. I verified the concern and some quick testing showed a valve-train failure. Assumed to be a failed AFM lifter. Removed cylinder heads and verified a failed lifter. This engine will be getting some new parts and will have the cylinder heads reconditioned with a 3 angle valve job and new valve springs.

These extended warranties stop at nothing. They couldn’t reach me by phone so they sent a damn carrier pigeon 🤦‍♂️

GM knew we would be pulling out these LS engines to put into hot rods. So they gave us a service position for the hood so you don’t have to remove it 😁

Booked out until after Labor Day. Incredibly fortunate to have the shop and driveway full of stuff to do.

This Jeep came in with a vibration/shaking complaint. Verified the concern as a misfire under moderate acceleration. Removed spark plugs to inspect. Spark plugs visibly worn and vehicle was past mileage interval for plug replacement. Found the valve cover also leaking. Another one fixed and back on the road!
