Is Safe Families for Children the same as foster care? Not quite.

Safe Families offers a voluntary option for parents experiencing a crisis who need temporary support caring for their children.

Here's what makes it different:
• Parents retain custody of their children.
• Children may stay temporarily with a screened volunteer host family.
• A Family Coach supports the parent and host family throughout the arrangement.

The goal is to help parents navigate a difficult season while keeping families together.

Safe Families NoCo staff member, Jildi Gentry, enjoyed attending the 2026 Spread the Good Luncheon at Aims Community College hosted by Weld Community Foundation! 💛

Safe Families is especially thankful for the recently awarded Littler Youth Fund grant through Weld Community Foundation to expand the Safe Families movement in Weld County—helping more children and families build meaningful connections and Circles of Support. Good grows when we share it!

Safe Families NoCo was invited to participate as a community resource partner for Chosen Sunday with Southgate Church and Ascent Project in Fort Collins, featuring special guest speaker Peter Mutabazi of Charlotte, NC.

Peter a “street kid” from Uganda is now a single father of three adopted children and a passionate advocate for children in foster care.

Having fostered over 45 children himself, Peter is a powerful reminder that “belonging” grows in consistent, caring relationships with people who show up, and that “being known” comes to children through safe adults who recognize the strengths in them and stay alongside them through life’s hardest seasons.

It was an honor to meet Peter, and join other resource organizations in offering support opportunities to those in attendance

Partner Church Spotlight: Citylight Church ❤️

For nearly 4 years, Citylight Church and Safe Families for Children of Northern Colorado (SFFC NoCo) have partnered together to support families in our community, and we are so privileged to continue this work side by side!

Thanks to our amazing partner churches and the incredible volunteers who say “yes” to walking alongside families, we get to see families in crisis overcome hardships and move beyond simply surviving to truly thriving!

Citylight SFFC volunteers have gone above and beyond in their generosity, compassion, love, and service to moms, dads, and children throughout Northern Colorado. Their willingness to show up, build relationships, and offer support makes a lasting difference in the lives of the families we serve.

We truly could not do this work without them! 💛

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Pastor Phil and Pastor Andrew for continuing to say “YES” to Safe Families for Children year after year. Your leadership, your church, and your volunteers are making a real difference in our community!

What a fantastic turnout we had this Saturday for our Footsteps for Families 5K! 💙💚

Thank you to everyone who came out to run, walk, volunteer, cheer, and support such an important cause. We are so grateful for everyone who helped make this event possible and for the community that continues to show up for Safe Families for Children Northern Colorado.
