⚠️ Intermittent P0087? Don’t be too quick to blame the CP3. ⚠️
This 2008 LMM Duramax came in with an intermittent P0087 (Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low). After some thorough diagnostics, we tracked the issue down to a fuel filter head pulling air into the low-pressure fuel system feeding the CP3 pump in the valley.
To pinpoint the source, we installed clear fuel hose on both the inlet and outlet sides of the filter head. This allowed us to visually inspect the fuel while the engine was running and determine whether the aeration was occurring before or after the filter head. Seeing air bubbles in the clear line made it easy to confirm the filter head was the culprit—not the CP3.
Proper diagnostics save customers money by replacing the failed component instead of throwing expensive parts at a problem.
