As a shop owner and being in this industry for over 26 years, I can honestly say that it is extremely challenging to be in this field. We have to understand how things function per manufacturer, be educated in electronics, buy our own tools, adapt to an ever changing industry, put our bodies through physical and mental torture, talk to customers who aren’t always nice, and be held accountable for our diagnosis to a degree higher than any other industry. With the need to constantly adapt to evolving technology, work in uncomfortable conditions, solve complex problems, and meet deadlines it’s no wonder why there is an estimated 56,000 unfulfilled technician positions. To meet someone who is interested and passionate in this field is rare. I met Ashley about six months ago when she applied for a job at Las Vegas Diesel. It was an easy decision to bring her on board as she came with an impressive resume, tools, charming attitude and a desire to learn and add to her craft. She expressed that she would be leaving in May to go back to a previous job as a technician at Yellowstone Park. Within the six months that she worked with us, she passed two ASE tests which included the A9 light duty diesel engines which is one of the most difficult tests to pass. She came to us with great understanding and ability to repair vehicles and leaves us with an enriched expertise and capabilities in regards to diagnosis and repair. With very little guidance, she was able to diagnose and repair everything that came her way. She also has great customer service skills and shows up with an effort to create a pleasant work environment. It was interesting seeing surprised reactions from people when they saw her as a mechanic in a male dominated profession. Everybody was surprised but supportive, especially once they talked with her and knew that she was the real deal. She was a blessing, inspiration, and will be greatly missed. We love you and wish you the best of luck on your next chapter. Rock on Red!
