I have the utmost respect for those hard core racers that finish a race like the Mint 400, especially the class 11 VW drivers! We drove 90 miles, one lap in the car (out of 3) before we ran out of the right parts to keep it going. The track was brutal with lots of rocks and to say it was hard on the cars would be an understatement. The .tires performed flawlessly, even when we kept stuffing the front bumper into them; we never had to change one. I was completely safe in the built roll cage, and we never had an issue with our iPad mount by even though the track was so rough we couldn’t read it half the time. Of course we wore our especially when we had to remove a bent tie rod on the side of the road and beat on it to get it straight again. We gave it everything we had and came up with some creative field fixes to keep us going, like at one stop when kept the front beam from falling off and fixed the bumper with a sawzall. It was a tremendous effort by the entire team to get all 7 vehicles off the start line on race day! I’m thankful to get to be part of this team; we will be back. If you are ever watching one of these races and see the guys in the stock-looking VW Beetle driving by, give them a cheer or thumbs up. It’s a tough class.

Mint 400!! I’ll be on and off of a livestream on my YouTube channel over the next few days. Starting the parade down the strip at 3:00 Vegas time today, and race on Friday. I’ll be in “Trooper” the VW, Class 11 #1154. Check for updates on NTDRacing.com

And she’s off! This has been a fun build with my daughter. Together we installed the engine, went through brakes, did the interior, polished the paint, and all the other stuff it takes to get an old forgotten car back on the road. The other day we painted the wheels and polished up a set of swap meet hubcaps (thanks ) and, I’m not gonna lie; when I heard my daughter snap the hubcaps in place I choked up a little. Not because it was the end of this build, but because my younger daughter is now 16 and going out to explore the roads on her own. I’ve always been thankful for the time that my Dad spends with me in the garage, and now with my second kiddo out there driving around in a car older than me, I appreciate it even more.
