More teardown inside the car! Steering wheel, column, gauge cluster, ECU and piggyback harness all pulled. Just about ready to push it outside and start tearing into the new shell! More exciting stuff coming as assembly of that one starts.

A bit more teardown while waiting for parts. Got the motor on a stand. Will be doing a few things there while its out. Crank seal, rear main seal, replacing all coolant lines that are a pain to get to with the engine in the car. Im not certain but may be the first time the motor has been out of this one. It has never been out for the 60,000 miles I have owned it. Maybe Matt Marks knows!

With some help of a good friend Tony Votaw, the old car is mostly stripped down! Today the engine, front subframe, suspension, and roll bar came out. Got a dolly built for it so its movable (with some effort!). Parts coming in for the build with the other shell. Progress!

Well I feel like if I am going to try to keep up this social media thing about the racecar I should actually have started at the beginning! If people want to follow along, that is cool. If not I guess its for my own entertainment :D But recently for those that did not know, I crashed the trusty AP1 I have been autocrossing and tracking for years. I bought this car from a friend that autocrossed it in 2014. Fell in love instantly with it and have enjoyed it completely over the years. It has been through some stuff but I have kept it in pretty good shape overall. But, this summers events took it out of the game (at least for now... keeping the shell and there may be more to come on that!) But for now, this was the outcome of the crash.
I walked away just fine. Safety gear did its thing. I cannot say it enough, if tracking, and especially if getting serious or competing, put money into the safety gear. Having a roll bar, harness, race seat and Schroth SHR Flex (Hans type device) was wise obviously. The staff at Hallett were excellent and handled the incident well. Car started and drove onto the trailer afterwards as well! I am starting this here to follow up with the build progress as we get the new car ready to go so will try to keep updates coming as that progresses.

Eventful weekend with the S2k build! We loaded up the subframe on Friday evening to go pick up the new shell. The shell originally had a rear end conversion performed so the owner wanted to keep those parts. So in order to make hauling easier, we took my rear subframe, coilovers and my wheels down to make it so the car will roll. Got up Saturday morning, and took off for Louisiana hauling the rear end.

9 hours later we were in the northern part of Louisiana for some dinner and crashing at a local AirBnb for the night. We got up the next morning to meet the buyer and look the car over at his shop. Everything looked good (easy to inspect given it had no drivetrain and he pulled the fenders so I could inspect the chassis more closely. So we proceeded with bolting up my subframe and installing the coilovers and fenders. Had all of that done, car loaded and bumper/hood loaded in the truck in about 2 hours time. Then went to get the title notarized, ate lunch and made the drive back home :) Seller was a nice guy and very helpful with everything so it was a good trip. Now the even more fun parts can begin! Will it stay red? Will I wrap it some crazy color? That remains to be seen...
