I took some pictures of my work on this trucks front brake system. I'm going over some steps I take to combat problems caused by ice melt chemicals on our roads that cause things to rust and fail prematurely. A little at a time over the next couple of days starting with a photo of these CERAMIC COATED BRAKE ROTORS that will RESIST CORROSION making them more than worth the extra 10%-20% increase in cost.

Seeing that I've posted two nights in a row, you can probably tell I'm not as busy now. Any way, I have a good example of why a scanner that you plug into vehicles only gives you a certain amount of info you may or may not be able to use to diagnose a problem. Today I looked at a chevy truck that was running eratic and really lacking acceleration badly and had a missfire code. My newer scanner I'm trying out before I buy said to check ignition and fuel injectors. Guess what ? Exhaust was plugged on one side. New catalytic converter and running perfect ! No substitute for experience and wisdom that comes with it and, unfortunately age !

I just recently picked up a customers car from Spokane Wa, after getting warranty work done on an engine I installed for them. It had an oil leak and they fixed there mistake. I'm apreciative of that. BUT, THERE WERE PROBLEMS with the way it was put back together. A cable rubbing against a pulley because it was not put back in its little plastic holder where it belongs. It would have ruined it if I drove it back to Kalispell that way. AND, a battery cable laying against an exhaust tube that was beginning to melt, if I hadn't noticed it, the car could have caught on fire ! It is so important to have good help and this is why I like to take my time giving a customers car back and take a second look under the hood just to be sure. If I hadn't done this, his car could have been ruined. So glad I caught it, but very disgusted with the wanna be mechanics work !! Took me about an hour of working on it in a parking lot before I could drive it home and a few more hours work before I let my customer have their car back. This is one example of why it's worth the $ to pay for a mechanic who's smart and thoughtful enough to PAY ATTENTION and make sure things are back where they were designed to go. Even if that means backing up and doing a step twice to make sure it's right.

Enlarge this photo and you'll be able to see a black streak burnt into the porcelain of this spark plug. This is a common cause of engines to misfire and not run smoothly. It's from electricity shooting like lightning down the side of the spark plug unstead of through the center where it's supposed to go. Easy fix for such a horrible running problem to have with your vehicle ! :-)
