Most RV owners spend a lot of time thinking about their black tank — but your gray tank needs attention too!

Over time, your gray tank can collect:

Leaving your black or gray tank valves open might seem convenient… but it creates a perfect storm of problems inside your RV.

Here’s what really happens:

👉 Pyramid Plug Build-Up
Liquids escape first, solids stay behind, and before long you’ve got a hardened “pyramid plug” forming in your tank. This leads to blockages, odors, and expensive clean outs.

👉 Sewer Gases Come Right Back Inside
With the valve open, campground sewer gases have a direct path into your RV.
That rotten-egg smell? 100% preventable.

👉 Sewer Flies / Drain Flies Can Enter Your Plumbing
Leaving the valve open invites sewer flies to travel up through the campground sewer and into your RV.
Once they get inside, they multiply fast — and they’re a nightmare.

👉 Your Sensors Get Gunked Up
When valves stay open, waste dries on the sensors and causes false readings.

“Just dump a few bags of ice down your toilet, hit the road, and let it scrub the tank clean.”
