Slowing down can save lives. Motor vehicle crashes involving wildlife are twice as common in national parks as they are elsewhere. Stay alert and drive carefully in places like Shenandoah National Park, where animals are often on the move.

This is heartbreaking to watch. People give up their pets for myriad reasons, but it seems like more and more people are giving them up due to personal financial crises. 😭

If you're in a position to own a cat, dog or other pet, please check with your local shelters first.

Weird... Went out looking for seashells. Came back with a bunch of stuff that doesn't look like seashells.

With the busy summer season getting started, please remember to pack out everything you bring to the park. Garbage that gets left behind can be harmful to animals as well as other visitors.

Owwwww!! Imagine having an ear infection so bad it looks like this! 😣 Poor Anaya is having surgery today to drain this abscess. We try to treat these without surgery when possible to spare the animals the stress and possible complications of surgery, but Anaya’s ear clearly needs that gunk taken out. While members of the public have often brought us turtles only after trying to “pop” these infections, causing great harm to them, this is a surgical procedure that must be performed under anesthesia by a vet. It’s never something to DIY!

We have some pretty hefty bills right now for veterinary care. If you’ve ever had a pet with an emergency, you know how expensive surgeries and emergency appointments can get. Dr. Falk at Animal Clinic East works her butt off for our critters, often squeezing us in after-hours and taking the complex, risky, and bitey critters that no other sane veterinarian will go anywhere near! New tent, who dis?

We just picked up an REI-coop Half Dome 2+ and since it arrived before this quick trip, we decided to use it right away.

Plenty of space for both of us, plus space for gear at our feet. More importantly, the tent withstood a random, crazy storm that crashed through Western Maryland on Saturday night, bringing 60+mph gusts, and driving rain. The tent was perfectly dry inside and didn't blow away (it was a thunderstorm, so we were hanging out in the ).
