The not so cool part about dirt racing… the clean up. Ahh who am I kidding, it was an awesome day to be outside with Lachlan and it’s not too often we get to play with the water hose and race cars at the same time.
We got the layer of dust blown off of everything and the car all scrubbed down. Time to put her pavement clothes back on for the next one at Anderson Speedway

Well we are back at it after a lengthy break to get through the month of May and all its fun! This past Saturday the team ran our very first dirt race at Paragon Speedway…

Track time for the event was limted with our first session being a 3 lap practice/qualifying session. Yes, 3 whole laps to learn how to drive on dirt and to figure out how to make this car work on a surface I swore I’d never race on… Needless to say, I was nervous like an expecting father.

Kaleb rolled out for the session with zero dirt experience and out of the box, looked really good. We ended up 10th of 16. Hard to get much usuable data in 3 laps, so we opted to leave the car alone for the heat race to just focus on driving what we had.

The 8 lap heat race was a blur for some reason, but we finished 4th. Kaleb made some passes and we could tell he was figuring it and gaining confidence. This finish set us up to start 8th in the feature.

Just like everyeyone told us it would, the track went dry-slick as the night went on so we made a few tweaks to tighten up the car for the main. I guess it worked because as soon as the green flag dropped for the 20 lapper, Kaleb started going forwards. Watching him run the feature, you’d never know he had a grand total of 11 laps of dirt experience. He was making passes and worked his way up to a third place finish!

Big thanks to BHR for the solid starting setup and guidance through the evening. As always, thanks to SRI-Indy and QS Components for their support too.

If you know me, you know my opinions about dirt racing, but maybe, just maybe, it’s not so bad afterall.

We are proud of the kid and cant wait to see what he can do on June 21st at Anderson Speedway!

It figures, by the time I get around to posting about our first race, it’s almost time to do it all again!!

Our first race was this past Friday at the the Sportsdrome Speedway and overall it was a success! It was a short program so we only had one practice session before qualifying. The session went really well considering it was Kaleb’s second time in the car, no thanks to spring weather in Indiana. We made a little stagger tweak and lined him up for qualifying. Unfortunately, that’s when things turned for the worse. As soon as we rolled off the car sputtered and died and we weren’t able to set a time, so back of the pack it is for the feature…

We pushed back, dove in and found that the fuel pump died. Luckily BHR had a new one in stock that I quickly helped myself to, and tossed it in. (Thanks Brad, don’t forget to add it to my invoice) the car fired right up after that and we were good to go. I hated losing the valuble track time, and starting at the back, but Kaleb wasn’t rattled a bit and was ready for the show.

We lined up for the feature and Kaleb made a smart and cautious start, remembering this is the first time he has been on the track with more than 2 other cars. You could tell for about the first 10 laps he was feeling out the car and got caught up in some traffic, while the lead pack gapped out a bit. Then the switch flipped… He started making moves and going forward. He made some clean passes and proceeded to run down the pack and worked his way up to tenth as the checkered fell.

Overall we are really happy with the result, given the circumstances with losing the session. Kaleb was focused and did everything right the entire night. We are really proud of him and can’t wait to see how we all progress as a team.

We are back at it again this Thursday night at Anderson Speedway for the Glen Niebel Classic with the 500 Sprint Car Tour. Come check it out!

3 more hours at work… Then southbound and down!

Come out and join us...spectator admission is FREE for this Friday Night. Pits open at 4:00, and on track action starts at 5:00. The Kenyon Midgets are scheduled to take the track for their first practice at 6:30.

She’s on the ground and ready to roll for our first race of the season this Friday at the Sportsdrome Speedway in Clarksville, IN!

With this crazy Indiana weather, we haven’t gotten as much track time as we would have liked, but we are up for the challenge of a new track. I hear this one has left hand corners too, so we have that part figured out at least🤣.

Looks like it’s going to be chilly, but as long as the rain gives us a break we can deal with that. I’m just ready to get going!!!

I also need to thank everyone for all the help and support getting us this far. Huge thank you to Stu and the guys at SRI-Indy and Frank at QS Components for taking great care of us. They have been a big part in making this happen.

We have been so busy getting ready for our first race at Anderson Speedway this coming Saturday, that I completely forgot to post about our first test!

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better first run with the new car and driver. We had some issues with the starter so took a bit to get the thing lit, but once we did the car ran perfectly all day.

Kaleb hopped in the car and it was like he was reconnecting with an old friend. He was silky smooth and executed all day. We made a couple small setup tweaks that settled the car down a bit and Kaleb got more comfortable every run. Despite a chilly day/green track, new car and a set of old scrub tires from the pile, he got down to some very respectable lap times.

Huge thanks to everyone that has helped us get this far! Also, thanks to Dustin from BHR for coming out to keep an eye on us and talk through the setup changes too!

Can’t wait to see how we do in a crowd…
