⚡ Burnt Stator on a Harley? Don’t Ignore Your Charging System!

We just had a Harley come in with a completely burnt stator one of the most common charging system failures on V-Twins. When a stator starts to go, it can leave you stranded fast: dim lights, weak starts, dead battery, and eventually a bike that won’t run at all.

A bad stator doesn’t happen overnight. Heat, age, and electrical load all take a toll, which is why regular charging system checks are crucial. A quick test can catch a weak stator, failing regulator, or tired battery long before it becomes a roadside problem.

This Street Glide came in with a high idle when cold and a surging idle when hot. After a full inspection, we tracked the problem down to a leaking intake seal on the front cylinder a common issue that can cause inconsistent idle and poor performance on Milwaukee Eight engines.

A fresh seal and proper torque took care of it, and the bike is running smooth again. ✔️
